Dump Points (I mean the common blue lid and grey base usually found in caravan parks) are they too large?
Would they be better if they were quarter of the size, a bit higher and not much bigger than the Loo at home (say 45cmx45cm) also could have a sloping base instead of the flat, might be a bit easier on my back when dumping.
Any thoughts

Hi Michael some of the newer ones have a sloped base that funnels the waist to the drain hole. Much easier to use and rinse off. I agree being a bit higher would be much easier on the back. Rod.

The size is right but a rise in height would assist the old back a bit.
I don't like small dump points as it is much easier to slop some over the sides if you have a rather full cassette

A ridiculous design in my view, and quite expensive. It is after all, just a hole in the ground with a lid.
Best dump point is a standard flushing toilet set lower into the ground. Pick one up from any salvage yard for $50.
Cheers,
Peter

Some Councils need a "Refresher Course" on Dump Point Installation to make them realise that there are many vans/motorhomes with " On board Black Water Tanks" and they must be able to park reasonably close to the Point to empty the tank and also that to build the Point up on a mound can make it impossible to get "fall" from the tank , up the mound and over the perimeter lip to the point. Bollards installed too far out around the point can also make it impossible to park close enough for a reasonable hose to reach.
I have experienced both situations.

Obviously the installation of these points leaves a lot to be desired as far as bigrig access goes, and of course the flat bottom ones were nothing short of incompetently designed and often incompetently installed as well.
I've used hundreds of dump points in over 30 countries and for big motorhomes with fixed tanks, it is hard to beat the US points if you have unlimited money. Ground level sealed pipe well sealed with foot lever to open lid. All concreted, entry from both directions and always drive through. Good separation of rinse and potable water hoses as well.
However the prize for excellence goes to Denmark for catering to both cassette (high splash proof) and fixed tank (ground level) emptying, push button rinsing and separated potable water outlet and all free too
Australia wins hands down for how many dump points there are and for them being free and certainly the cmca have done a great job promoting them, but loses a lot of points for the cmca approved splash **** all over you, wreck your back design, placement of rinse tap, failure to provide a fixed rinse hose and far too often, failure to provide a well separated and clearly identified potable water tap fitted with a guard to stop grubs shoving their cassette spout up over it.
None of it is rocket science so certainly a pity that the cmca couldn't have applied a few brains toward writing up an approved installation manual all those years ago.
--For those who appreciate good dump-point design. This one fails on a couple of points, but for hygienic layout it gets 10 out of 10. Drive up and dump the cassette and grey water. Use the clearly-marked hose to clean up and then move to the right where there is a hand basin with soap and water to wash your hands and then move to the right again where there is a potable water tap and hose. All clearly labelled pictorially in deference to the 99% of us who can't comprehend written or spoken Icelandic. Edited by Tony LEE on Wednesday 10th of February 2021 04:27:12 PM

I don't have a problem with the blue ones. At least they are there to use.
Where I am at the moment have a small dump point about 300mm square with a 100mm hole and a tin lift off cover. I just put spout from canister in the hole and slowly does it, no splash back.
At Girgarre Near GreenS Lake N C VIC they just have a 100mm plastic pipe about 200mm above ground and a screw cap on top. Never had a problem there either. GreenS Lake now have the blue one.
I'm just grateful to have access to something to empty into.

I think they are about twice the diameter they need to be. And steeper funnel would help. But not higher though, might get splash back.lol And yes, a clearly signed tap for filling van.

The CMCA only sponsors the dump point. The design of the blue ones is the sole responsibility of DumpEzy. Installation is the sole responsibility of the councils. I believe even those in caravan parks need council approval. They are raised above the ground, yes in some cases too high above the ground, because of the treat of local flooding etc. The CMCA has all but no input into those installed in a cul-de-sac. Or car parks etc etc.

The sloping sides ones, are much better to clean, than the flat floor ones
I think that the height is a compromise, so that they can be used for both cassettes, and black water tank RV's
I appreciate that there are dump points, as it makes travelling much easier

I did spot a pipe coming out of the ground, and immediately thought, that it could not be a dump point

I agree with Granty we have never failed to find dump points throughout our travels from QLD back to WA. Very few have been objectionable, some have been questionable but generally all have been very serviceable and mostly all have been washed down by the previous user.
We are fortunate we have a black tank and it is pumped out direct into the dump point. Our waste is thin liquid courtesy of the macerator toilet.
Cheers

I have no problems with the 'Dump Ezy' models, just thankful that they are provided by who ever.
But
On our trip thru SW Qld last year we found some interesting versions, varying from just an old chain pull toilet suite concreted into a rock garden at the rear of a shed at the Emerald Lake side CP to a wheelie bin filled with concrete around a flared end 100mm waste pipe at the Longreach CP. All worked well & brought a smile to the dial as I performed the task (& then took a photo of course - see attachments)
Edit .. Oops, forgot to mention the one we encountered at a Cunnamulla CP on a previous trip. It was just a100mm capped pipe situated on our site, just beside our drawbar. Free for anyone to use. I put up a cheeky 'Out of Order' sign when the Patrol was not parked over the top of it. Plenty elsewhere for others to use. LOL

I had grouchy old B.......... in a motorhome, bully me, into not using a dump point for my portable toilet cassette at Casino. He said, that they were only supposed to be used by moronhomes and caravan toilet cassettes. He intervined in stopping me from dumping it in there, so I dumped it on the ground in front of his step, of his m.home. Have not used them since. He was a CMCA member. I know it was childish for me to do that, but I would have dropped the old B..., if I didn't do something childish in the spur of the moment.

I was in a free camp talking to a couple when a bloke walked by with his dog. Dog left a log right in front of us and the dog and bloke kept going. The person I was with picked it up and put next to the dog owners car door. The owner came out to get in car later and stood in it. He looked over to us by then sitting near by and for some reason was not a happy camper. Too bad.

I don't think so.
If you were, so was I Thursday just gone. A motorhome arrived at 1.30am and set up right next to me and made heaps of noise for about an hour. I had had enough so at 6.00am when I got up I opened all the windows that side and banged doors and did anything else that made a noise. Trouble is, the noise was annoying me as I don't like noise and had to stop. Bugga.

If you have ever watched a vanner come along with a 100 litre black tank, you would not recommend a raised up dump point. This self confessed newby I saw, forgot the weight of a 100 mm diam hose full of good stuff.
Of course the raised up point meant he had to lift the hose to then empty just the hose. The gloves on his hands in no way diminished the product getting over his shoes pants and surrounding area.
So I am with the keep the thing low brigade....

Our bus conversion had 300ltr of black and 700ltr of grey. You couldn't open up the valves completely on most dump sites as they couldn't cope with the volume all at once. Most were also too high. Rabbit holes work better!!!!
And as for those installed in dead end roads. Well just let me say a 40ft coach towing a 4x4 makes interesting viewing turning around.
