What they failed to mention was the poor handling of the car (or in my case, station wagon) on dirt roads. Still, the car didn't roll so that was a good thing!
Perhaps the HD suspension mentioned above might have fixed that.

They handled ok for cars at the time . We towed race horse float with a sedan . One of the best towing cars we had !! Remember the tyres we had back then ? 165 was the std size . Besides your hardly racing when towing . The longer wheel base of the wagon would help stability ! Yes body roll on cars back then was real !

I towed the same type of van (rented) as in the picture from Melbourne to Surfers Paradise and back in a 1968 VE slant six Valiant with my Mum and Grandpa.
Filled the tank every 100miles and luckily my Grandpa paid for the fuel which was cheap back in 1971.

From what I recall of these vehicles, items 6,7,8, and 13 would go a long way to improving handling of the car.
By posting this advert I wanted to point out that back then at least one manufacturer took into account that their vehicle might be used for towing.
How many manufacturers today offer larger radiators, fans, and shrouds, (given that most vehicles back then did not have fan shrouds),
Improved brake components as well as the necessary tow bar and wiring.
Most tow kits offered today are very basic and mainly only include the tow bar and wiring and many are priced up around the $1000.00 dollar mark.
Most of the time today if a consumer has a problem while towing with a new vehicle it is really just a bad luck story from the manufacturer and any fix will be generally from an aftermarket part or modification.
It is amazing what value for money we got years ago.
Imagine a current manufacturer offering options to eliminate their inadequacies with their vehicles when it comes to towing.
Perhaps the HD suspension mentioned above might have fixed that.
