Hello- I have on order a Jayco Journey Outback 19ft. I have a 2016 Triton duel cab to tow as this will probably be my last van I was wondering what extras I should look at. I have added extended draw bar and Reversing Camera,Bike rack, I will be doing eventually the big lap with a mix of free and paid camping sites. Appreciate any feedback.Dan

We have a 19ft Jayco outback van and yes we are really pleased with it. April 2018 Model. Our upgrades were similar to yours IE Extended draw bar and camera. The other addition was an upgrade to 600kg payload plus upgraded solar to 160watt then I added another 100Watt panel myself. Plus a Diesel heater.
As we are just under our GCM of 6000KG when fully loaded for a long trip. I suggest that you watch your weights for the Triton.

Thanks for your feedback. Just found out today we may get it Late Sept we ordered it in October and yes agree re total weight Im aware of Im on the borderline re weight when Im fully loaded. Thats why Im hesitant in adding to much to the original van.cheers Dan

Hi DC,
We have a 2015 17.55 Journey outback with extended draw bar and twin 9kg bottles in the front boot. Here in NSW the Reversing camera is compulsory as standard kit. I would be asking for that to be included in the deal for a start, along with a second spare to fit in the A Frame. We got stuck into Jayco and they came good. The deal included a gal jerrycan holder that was missing on hand over.
Didn't take long to find one in their shop down stairs $165 at the time.
I fitted a second hand Rhino basket as new 2200mm x 600mm = 15kg, @$100 across the A frame hard up against the boot. great for some firewood and long objects.Fitted a stone stomper myself as we travel the road others don't travel.
Diesel heaters are money well spent. Again I brought and fitted ours, myself. Very cheap these days.I wouldn't leave home without one.
A 18v rattle gun for dropping and rasing the corner stays. Plus a TV sat dish and Vast set top box.Never miss the footy even if the fish are biting.
PS: forgot add Beer / Wine.

The idea was to store the extra second spare down in between the A frame. @ 24kg per tire we leave our freebee at home in lieu of our basket. Always keeping in mind of ball weights.
We carry long handle shovel, pair of oars for the dingy, a milk create, and fire wood to make dampers. and a home brew keg that fits inside the create. the keg washers undies, socks,and tops as we travel back roads. the agitation makes em cleaner then any washing machine out there.

3 things for free camping, plenty of water, plenty of battery and plenty of solar power.
1 spare is usually suitable to get you to the next tyre shop.

Sage advice there,Roger.As far as I can determine,the van that Dan has chosen has an ATM of about 2700kg(?) which is about top dollar for a Triton to safely tow.As always,the limiting factor is the rear axle capacity of only 1840kg,remembering that a towball weight of 270kg (10% of 2700kg) will put over 400kg onto that axle.And we won't even mention bent chassis. Bob's advice,as always,is good.Water,battery capacity and Solar are vital if you wish to free camp with any degree of comfort. Remember,also,that there is no chance of Dan getting within cooee of his 5885kg GCM,with about 5200kg being the best he'll get,even with with the most careful attention to detailed loading.I wish Dan all the best in preparing for his trip,but he must watch that rear axle weight.Cheers
