Anyone know the procedure for inspection for re-rego when interstate on the Big Lap?
We are from NSW and will commence our road trip February 2022 with caravan rego due mid May 2022. We expect to be in SA when rego due.
Any comments appreciated.

Hi all; You could and i do not see why you can't pay the rego in advance before you leave, Have a talk with the registration people. The same would go for your tow vehicle.

I was in NT . Notified NSW RTA . They have a list of inspection places . Went to one of them
As long as they are qualified . Sent papers in . Not sure if email or fax ? Done like normal !!

In Qld you are notified via email (as long as you have provided your email) when rego is due, this is usually 5 weeks from actual date and you pay via BPay
Check NSW transport and see if you can do same, then simply pay via Bpay.
Those not from NSW don't realise how good they have it with no safety inspections

KymLou, in NSW there was a workaround available for heavy vehicles that should be the same for small ones too.
A normal greenslip is valid for close to 90 days AND you can renew your registration 90 days early.
So you can get the inspection done before you leave and then get the timing right and renew it online a couple of months later within 90 days of due date.
Need to check with service nsw that it still applies and be prepared to tell the mechanic he doesn't know what he is talking about when he says you are wrong.

Hi KymLou,
You can reregister Six (6Months) before hand. Take your current rego to E Check servo. Then onto Services NSW over the counter. You can then have up to 18months of registration. Have done this many times.
Cheers Grey

Yeah - rust buckets, bald tires, tail light/stoppers faulty, no numberplate somewhere, squealing brakes,
and on it goes.
Although it was a bore - it's better than the dangerous crap on the roads up here. People are irresponsible.
Too late to get booked when you have hurt someone.
Same as with towing licenses - always a good idea while you survey the damage to your (or someone's) pride and joy.

In WA there are no inspections although the police do roadside checks for compliance.
There are very few vans that are as described above. A walk around any caravan park in WA will not turn up very many vans that are registered that are not in a roadworthy condition.
Road Safety WA has looked at the question of introducing roadworthy inspections each year, but the accident statistics show that there are extremely few accidents contributed to by unroadworthy vehicles, and the cost to the community is unjustified.
