Hi there everyone, we are in the process of owning a motorhome this week & are totally confused in regards to Insurance and Roadside Assist. Been comparing plenty on many sites & have come to a stand still. We are hoping anyone could enlighten us and we could appreciate any recommendation please. It will be transferred into NSW from QLD Rego. Would love to hear from all you happy campers from the newbies.. Regards Cooma

I found the best Roadside Assist is NRMA Premium. They where absolutely brilliant when we needed them. As for insurance, there is not that many options, there is CIL, Ken Tame & Avida, Im sure there are others but we havent found them. I havent had the need to claim, so I couldnt tell you what they are like.

We use our State Motoring Club services with success.
We have most things set up way, one phone call, one number.
There road service for a car and caravan has been exceptionally the one time we needed help.
My advice is check your state motoring club for your needs.

Yes, I totally agree as well.
These organisations are great for all kinds on insurance, not just for an RV.

I have used Ken Tame for insurance previously, for our first motorhome, one claim in 6 years first class service. Currently with CIL as the KT price for our new motorhome was too high. I have found that with all forms of insurance that they all vary from one year to another.
Roadside assistance I have used Ken Tame that is now looked after by CMCA. Currently with NRMA truck via Sydney RV. One call out with KT quick response, no calls to NRMA yet. Hope this information is of assistance.

Avsolutely NRMA Premium cover and we insure with CIL. They have both looked after us fantastically for 10yrs.

A few years ago, we had a rash of excess money and lack of sensibility, and bought 2 new cars. Both of them came with Mitsubishi roadside assist. Prior to that, we had NRMA roadside service subscriptions for each of our cars. When I asked NRMA about double cover (NRMA + Mitsubishi roadside), the NRMA suggested that we drop their roadside service, but maintain NRMA membership so that we didn't lose our long service record (whatever that is...). When the Mitsubishi service expired, we resumed the NRMA roadside service again. We were told that in the rural areas, it didn't matter which service we had because it would be a local mechanic/tow truck which did the service anyway.
One point with the Mercedes motorhome - NRMA (and probably most roadside services) have a load limit (from memory, 3 tonnes) for towing. Check this out before heading off.

Only ever needed road side help once. Out back QLD. I was with Ken Tame. One phone call and all was organised with no issues. FWIW Ken Tame only manages the insurance on behalf of the CMCA. It's the CMCAs insurance. I believe there have been some recent changes and I'm not up to speed on what has happened.

When I had a caravan, I had fully comprehensive RAC Western Australia (RACWA), insurance and roadside assistance, for both car and caravan
But when I got the motorhome, they told me that they no longer, insured my size motorhome, due to weight/length/height restrictions
I now have CIL insurance, which will, if I have read the PDS (Product Disclosure Statement) correctly
Bring me home if I get hospitalised, and unable to drive
Bring my motorhome, home, if I get hospitalised and unable to drive
Tow me to the nearest garage, (not the best, just the nearest) if I have a mechanical breakdown, (then I have to pay for repairs)
Take the motorhome to a panel beater, after an accident, and either get me home, or give some hire car, or accommodation, depending on repairs
Whatever roadside assist you get, read the PDS, before you sign up
What the salesperson may say over the phone, may not be what the written PDS says you will receive
I did (a few years ago), email the NRMA, asking if they covered me, as I reside in West Australia, as they did not get back in a timely manner, I did not follow through
