Can anyone here that has recently travelled the Newell Hwy comment on the Mice plague. I'm going through Victoria to Queensland end of June and working out which way to get there.

By road is the best way . Depends if you want to travel the coast ? Less rodents , although more of the two legged . I would prefer inland to give some ( if any ) money to business. They need it . Through Cowra , Forbes west of great dividing range . New England H Way . Its colder in higher altitude. Less chance of mice ! Straighter, not so hilly roads compared to coast . Bypassing CBDs especially Sydney . They die off quick in cold !!

Aus-Kiwi, We are in the New England, the mice are everywhere here, the cold weather has not stopped them this time, I am filling my garbage bin every 3 days and a metre by 2 metre pit is being dug, once a week. I am in town (Bundarra). We had 50 mice try to get in the back sliding door on Monday, When we open our doors that is when they come into the house. Our yard is crawling with them, I have just finished electricfying a screen around the chook pen, because they are getting attacked. I would estimate at least 5000 mice a day in the house yard alone. We have no cure for them, and I have requested in another forum, what we could do about them. We have 15 water buckets going everyday, and emptying every day. I have 150 mouse traps running daily as well, that is a hell of a lot of peanut butter. Don't come to the New England, drive thru very fast, and only fuel up.

Thanks for replying, I prefer the inland route as well but I dont want to see the electrics eaten out of the car.
We are towing the caravan and on a time limit to get to the grand daughters wedding in Mission Beach.

When you park up of a night, lift the bonnet to the engine bay.
Stay out west.

I like the Newell Hwy but recently did some travelling on the Hume Hwy and then on the coast road back to Brisbane. Good grades on the Hume Hwy and Pacific Hwy through NSW makes for quick motoring with a van. We have a poptop and our length and height were ok for the less expensive tolls through Sydney. Pleasantly surprised at the ease to pass through Sydney. Using the toll roads, we travelled in some drizzle around lunchtime on a Monday and the traffic moved mostly at the speed limit. Many towns in NSW on the Pacific Hwy are now bypassed so no stopping unless you want to.
