Hi All Just wondering if there are many people waiting for their new van like me, I ordered a Jayco Journey outback in October last year I have just been told ETA is October 21? Very Frustrating as part of me wants to pull out of the agreement and buy elsewhere.

Sign of the times, there are long waiting lists for caravans, vans etc as it is a touch difficult to travel overseas. Also shortage of chips for vehicles.
One should have bought in 2019 together with an oxygen concentrator!
Keep yourself busy & do a spreadsheet for weight for every item you add to your payload.

DC did you know the wait would be that long when ordering? I mean yes a wait time but that's a long time.
We had some warranty work done on our campervan a few weeks ago. They told us their order book was also full with earliest delivery end of 2022.
There's going to be a lot of pressure on camping spots when all these new RVs hit the road.

When I ordered they couldnt commit to a delivery date but estimated May as when I would be taking hold of the van.

Force majeure also known as cas fortuit or casus fortuitus "chance occurrence, unavoidable accident", is a common clause in contracts that essentially frees both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of the parties, such as a war, strike, riot, crime, or an event described by the legal term act of God, prevents one or both parties from fulfilling their obligations under the contract. In practice, most force majeure clauses do not excuse a party's non-performance entirely, but only suspend it for the duration of the force majeure.

Possum3 all well and good. But last October Jayco was back in production, I assume, and aware of the orders coming in. A month late? 2 months may be. But 6 months? Either they excepted an order knowing they couldn't deliver or they have very poor control over their production schedule.
We ordered a campervan. We were told the day the van would arrive in Australia. They then gave a date for fit out and delivery. We were told 6 months to delivery. They gave us a date. We picked it up a day early. This manufacturer now has a delivery date of October 2022. I would bet their customers will not be delayed with delivery. I would suggest that Jayco is fibbing or disorganized.

Van manufacturer's delays have little to do with production schedules.
Most of the components in a new caravan come from overseas where factories are either closed because of lock downs or in very limited production.
It is also very unpredictable with lock downs overseas.

I accept that Montie but if one manufacturer can do it why can't another? Sure Jayco builds more but then they should be aware of the supply chain issues just as a small manufacturer is. I understand that covid and border closures have turned the market on it's head. But ALL manufacturers should be able to manage the situation. If one can the all should be able to as well.
If I was DC I would be looking at my options.

Covid created a boom in caravan sales from what I can gather. It isn't unusual to take 12 months for a van. Heard from a mate that he has been told be one manufacturer work you could expect a van just before Christmas.......2022

We put a holding deposit down 2 weeks ago on a new van which we have been told has an expected delivery date of 2nd week of November (this year). Not a big concern because we are in a position to keep our current Retreat until the delivery gets closer then from what I hear we should be able to get reasonably good money for it..Apparently any new orders are being given a delivery date of February next year because of the xmas break and the dealer is planning on using the December builds as their 2022 new model display stock. We went to Jayco a few weeks ago looking at motorhomes and they gave us a delivery time of mid 2022 for orders placed in that week. A lot of the dealers we spoke to told us that they were not bothering with things like the Sydney caravan show because they had plenty of orders on their books already.

Ordered in may at caravan show, put deposit down. Delivery Feb 22
With hindsight I would not now have done this but would loose the deposit if I cancel.

I am just about to order a new caravan, hopefully i have timed it ok.
I do not need it untill Sepembr 2022. If i get it any earlier, its a bonus.
It will have a few non standard fixtures, and extras, but that shouldn't make any difference. My place in the que won't change.
The new tow vehicle will be ordered next month, and again it will have a few non standard items, that has a delivery schedule of February 2022.
I am heading to the Maitland Camping and Caravan show next weekend to chat with the Newcastle dealer of the brand of caravan i am looking at.
Lets see if they can give me a "show special"?, as stated before, some caravan manufacturers don't even need to be at the shows, such is the demand at the momment.
I still believe that in around two years time, there will be lots of second hand motorhomes and caravans hit the market, as overseas travel becomes available again.

The manufacturer building 200 vans per annum is less affected than one that builds 8000 vans per annum.
Many small manufacturers build vans one at a time and buy many components one at a time....

Montie my guess it's all about cash flow and good management. Size isn't as relevant. The same build delays are happening in the USA. Everyone has been caught out by the current circumstances.

In my case I put down a deposit in November 9th 2020 . Was told ready by June 2021. I have just rang them today and was now told it will be now January2022
Is anyone in the same position or can anyone tell me whats going on out their in the caravan world.
All my friends are pressuring to do something.
Im so close now but Im getting frustrated .

David in one way you are lucky - in that you don't have to register and insure a caravan that you are unable to use until December (at best) owing the the plague that has shut the Nation.
Oh! Welcome to G/N's as well.

Hi everyone, just to shed some light on this situation, anything that requires parts from outside Australia will take longer because of the on flow affect of the covid disruptions, this is just one issue your facing then you have the orders that have massively increased because of covid, I myself have items on order from overseas and the time it's taking to get here is a joke but that said I do understand, be patient because things are out of the producers control and how can you manage production if you just cant get the supplies?
one example although not the best is if a package(not a letter) is sent via post it goes on a standard passenger aircraft to it's destination, however because of the lack of passenger flights these items are now put in a cues and these cues are go on the plane as space is available. what this actually means at the moment is that parcels are being held back as letters have priority over parcels, the other side of the coin, it comes by sea, one of the biggest shipping ports in the world is located in China this was closed recently because of a covid outbreak, the sues cannel was also blocked, we have workers that have been put into quarantine all over the world all these factors totally disrupt production.
I know it's frustrating but there is nothing you can do about it except wait and be glad if your on the finishing end of the deal and not looking to order.
I also think that in a few years there will be a flood of very cheap used vans on the market, so if your thinking about an upgrade it may be a good idea to wait for one of those real good cheap vans or order now cause I could be wrong

Hi Members
I posted the above post back in October 2021.
Update
I received a email from the sale man in January stating could be ready April 2022
My new Caravan has still not arrived.
This week I spoke to both the sale men and the saw the caravan manufacturer [a small manufacturer ] who stated that caravan will be some time in June 2022.
That will make about 19 month wait.
I was wondering is this a record for waiting time or can someone beat this time.

Like Aliens, they are out there for the capturing.
Friends of mine saw a as new van advertised on Facebook in VIC last Sunday, they are in NSW. He rang and asked about the van and sounded legit etc so started planning the trip down to check. A second phone call the seller said if he is serious and paid $500 deposit he would even deliver to the mates house in NSW as he was going that way. The van arrived Thursday afternoon, payment made and now a proud owner of a very well looked after duel axle 21' van with all the mod cons and extra trimmings included. It would have to be the deal of the century.
