I am trying to make a booking at Lake Argyle Resort but they tell me that they only take a limited number of bookings per day and then it is first come first serve. Sounds fair enough but I wonder if anyone has any advice on how to make sure we get in. We have a group of 10 in five vehicles so just showing up might not work for the entire group. Any advice/suggestions are most welcome. Many thanks
As it is 5 hectares they normally can always fit you in - If not there is always plenty of bush up there.

Great advice - many thanks. There seems so much pressure to book in advance everywhere and it can take away from the spontaneity of the journey.

And yet these places want to bring in more tourists and more immigrants to serve them. Whats the point when they are booked out with locals. Aren't we good enough?

Hi
If you are camping in tents you will have more chance if in vans they have to wait until someone vacates their spot and then fills it with the next van.
Being the first in the line up will increase your chance of getting in as most people only stay a few days at a time.I was up there two years ago and on the way in near the bridge on the river there were people camping if its still allowed.
Many of the camp areas up in the NT and WA are similar to the way Lake Argyle book in travellers.
Cheers

Stay in the lakeside caravan park at Kununurra.
It's nice and not that far out to Argyle for a boat trip on the lake if you want to experience that. About 70kms from memory. A day trip pretty much covers the amount you can see and access.
Solves the issue of getting into Argyle caravan park. We had trouble getting in with just two van's but did manage it in the end but a larger group may well find it difficult.
Next time Kununurra gets my vote.

As possum has already said, it would be best if you booked in as a group, to ensure you all get in together
But I would be booking in, at the earliest possible time, to get 5 sites together
Not sure what (about 2017) year, I went to the Lake Argyle Resort
Wife rang from Kununurra, and was told there were no (powered sites) bookings available, and that it would be first in, first served next morning
We camped just off the road, somewhere between the resort, and the (unofficial) free camp near the bridge
We were first in the queue about one hour before book in time, there would have been at least ten other rigs behind us, before we were allowed to book in
Not sure why that place is so popular, we only went for the helicopter ride, to see the lake

10 years ago we stayed there! Loved the bird life, loved the Sunset cruise on the Lake and the swim off the boat! The pool was freezing in June 2011! Most amazing place .
