Listening to the radio this morning. Check your insurance that your vehicle is actually covered for rodent damage.
Even if you are covered & the vehicle does not go up in flames. It is major work to rewire a vehicle.
I have been repairing cables in our block of units roof from rats. So far 8 days cleaning the roof & replacing batts, & this is the start.
I have set up a spare dashcam that I can turn on once a day with live feed to see if rat traps have killed something.
Don't bother going to the big hardware store for anything to do with rodents as the shelves are empty. I spoke to the staff & they said people were coming from the country & emptying the shelves.
I got up on the roof yesterday as been hearing scratching in the ceiling/walls every now and then. Tried to get into the roof space to have a look around but couldn't manage it with my bad back. Ended up sliding tiles back and dropping ratsack blocks into the space. Didint see much on the lower level but seen what I took as dropping on the higher level, around were I had heard scratchings in the wall. Will go back and do the same in a week or two. One of the dogs scared a rat out of a garden bed a few weeks ago. The neighbours have mentioned they have have been seeing them around outside and one said he had found hole inside that had one running in and out of. Never had a rat or mouse problem here in 30 years. New neighbours have chooks and recon they might be bringing them.

I had put ratsack in the roof months ago. It seemed to make the problem worse attracting more rats.
I think put traps in the roof & bait around the house, but I'm open to suggestions.
I havent had mice or rats in the ceiling since I plugged all access points with steel wool. I also have a known rat run that I keep baited all times. When a bait goes, I replace it.

Well wife just heard a ruckas in the wall down low, same place i heard it up high the other night. Have cut a hole at the bottom to see what comes out. Inside was a European wasp. Maybe I have them and not mice. Maybe I have both.

I would be getting rid of any European Wasp's, as soon as I could, Corndoggy
I am led to believe that, once they start, they keep stinging

Have been stung by them few times. A couple flew in the open car window hit the seat and ended up stinging be a few times each. Nearly ran off the road. Thought someone had flicked a cigarette butt in. Only had a tee shirt on but they got me. Put my hand don my back to get it and the bugger stung me more on my hand. Other time I mowed over their nest. Got stung a few times on the head. Turned around and seen them all coming out. I ran away.had them a few time here. Go out at night and fill the entrance and around it with wasp powder. I get my revenge.
Now just heard scratching mid wall, then shortly after up near the ceiling where it wS the other night. Its the space between the ceiling and second story floor. I can picture a hole in the roof now.

Found the wasp nest today. Just gave them a few squirts of wasp kill up into the holes and gave them a little landing pad with a pile of wasp kill on it for them to trample into the nest. Check it tomorrow and see how they like it. Don't know how the roof rat is going. During the week will throw some bait up there again.

Wife's car engine light came on, mechanic checked under bonnet and found 300mm of wiring harness missing, chewed by rats or mice

If you don't have one, it's worth getting one of those red things in the left of this photo. I have two 1kg ABE in the car, two 1kg in the garage, one 2kg in the home. A 4.5kg in the common laundry & 5kg CO2 in the electrical room.
Been living here for 35 odd years and not had a real problem with mice or rats until recent. Been talking to people around the area and I'm surprised with the amount saying they have rats or mice around. Also some have said they have chooks or birds near by, like me.
