Just out of curiosity I would like to know how much water everyone uses while camping. I ask because I posed the same questions on another forum where their caravans had a total of 190 litres, 2x95. All but one said either 2 or 3 days!! Many stay in caravan parks and don't dry camp. We have 120lt on board and it lasts us 10-12 days. And no we don't stink! Navy showers.

When I'm 'off grid' I have 2x95lt tanks that I fill one and at some point it overflows into second tank until both full. I only shower every second day and use 6lt of water to do so. The other days are a good old fashioned basin wash using about 2lt of water. I have actually never let run out as top up the tanks weekly. All drinking water is filtered and in 10lt containers and separate from tanks.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

2.5 litres each a day. If it is hot about 3.0 litres each per day. Then every so often have a good clean in civilization.
We do have a bucket to soak clothes overnight & wash a few things & can get away with about 5 litres of water.
I can wash the car with air compressors at 0.5 litres of water per minute, Perrier works well! About 3 litres is generally enough, 5 litres is plenty.

2x 44 litre tanks and 15 litres reserve in the car. That gives us 5-7 days. We dont camp longer than 4 days usually so its ideal. We use a ecospin washer that works well. Showers are brief half way stop to lather up. Joolca hottap works well but even better now enclosed in a first aid cabinet on the back outside as the wind sometimes snuffs out the flame.

We don't camp much longer than 4 to 5 days and we carry 190 litres which lasts us. 2x95 litre tanks.
We could stretch it further if we want to get conservative but usually want to move on after that period.

Hi, we have 2x95lt for showers and 1x filtered drinking water. We can stretch it out to about a week with not too much of a problem.(thats the 2x95). We also carry 2 x 20lt spare on the rear of the van but only fill them if going bush for longer periods
Cheers

Australian Navy calculates 100 LPD per sailor - less on Submarines - US Navy Navy uses 30 gpd. For example, a Spruance Class destroyer has 2 two stage flash type evaporators rated at 8,000 gallons per day each. The manning on a Spruance Class destroyer is 300 sailors.
I am assuming you are two persons - so frugal water use in caravan/motor home, would need 30-40 LPD that calculates out at 4 - 3 days capacity in your tanks - If you rely solely on water for drinking cooking etc (maybe a flannel every second day), if you are using canned vegetables, drinking milk, beer and wine and eat out of camp - the figures would vary.
Any less water use is miserly and risks severe beating over the head whilst sleeping.

Possum3 are you saying we stink?
We are frugal. We are careful how much water we use to flush the bog. We are very careful about washing dishes. We turn the shower on, run around in a circle, turn the tap off. Lather up. Turn on and run around again. Etc etc, etc. We carry bottle water for any drinking or cooking. But 120ltr over a 10-12 days ain't that hard.
FWIW we both come from the country and grew up watching the level of water in our tanks.

We carry 200litres on-board and another 40litres reserves. Most of our camping is off-grid with no means to replace water on site but we will top up when we're on the move and it's available. We easily get 10 days and we're not especially frugal. For instance, we carry lot of clothing so have clean clothes for weeks without washing. Shower frequency and length depend on weather (cold weather encourages shorter showers, hot weather increases frequency.). Admittedly, we actively seek out public showers. On longer trips we'll stay at a CP for the conveniences and try to use them as bases for a few days.

RAN's newest ships operate on about 75 lpd and can produce huge amounts if water. I'm not sure of the current averages but I have not intention of working like an enlisted sailor anyway. I'm still using more than an astronaut.

I didn't say or even infer that you stink - You made a claim about water rationing and mentioned Navy to corroborate - I advised you about correct Navy usage.
Your original statement was you only carry 120 litres - But you now say you carry extra water in bottles for drinking and cooking, note I also stated that if you were not cooking (eating out and drinking other than you tanks that figures would vary.
My inference was if you are stingy with water, your partner may take umbridge and clock you whilst sleeping, (It is called Humour).

Possum3 I should have put a big smiley on my post. My comment was tongue in cheek.
We do carry about 12 small bottles of water. 90% for drinking. We/wife do very little cooking as such. Mostly salads and noodles etc. If we are on the road we eat out.
Now I'll really upset some. It takes us 50 days to use a 4.5kg gas bottle.

190 litres for the two of us for washing and drinking. Best we can do is 7 days. We shower every day.

We try to have as much fresh stuff as possible & really enjoy it. We only steam or boil at most, saves difficult cleaning.
When in town we get our coronary life threatening hit which keeps us going another week.
We can only carry about 80L water maximum due to space, it just gets difficult beyond that, & payload issues.

I nearly always bush camp and I always try to camp by water; river, creek, dam what have you.
The van has 190L total in tanks which I keep full of potable water. I also keep 5L in the vehicle for (getting stuck in the bush type) emergencies.
I use the local (river/dam) water for everything excepting drinking/cooking. I add 1% sodium hypochlorite to local water at a ratio of 1:2000, this keeps shower water more or less clean.
Using this system the van's potable water lasts for ages - don't know how long.
I also have 135L of plastic water containers (3 x 25L + 4 x 15L) which I fill up in town with potable water when possible and pump these into the van's tank as required.
Had a shower outside tonight with dam water heated on the fire, 8C, but no wind and the shower was delightful :)

Also have suction line on drawbar for use if near a stream, lake or dam.

In our current van, it must have been an added extra , the previous owners ordered at some point, but we have one big mutha of a tank at 160 litres, and we go 21 days on that. We do not have a S/T on board other than a P/P, and a portable 12 volt shower. But I carry 20 litres in jerry's for that. Depends on the weather as to how much we use, but we are normally only out in all seasons other then summer.

I have around 160 litres on the van. l only use this for drinking and cooking so a month is no problem. Being fulltime and free camping l don't go into town very often. The Ute has a160litre tank that l fill in town, then transfer to van if required. I can outdoor shower from my Ute's tank when remote. l have a stainless steel bucket that heats channel, river, dam or lake water either in the sun or on the fire for bucket showers.

We have 180 litres on board the van and the 2 of us can if needed get by on 20 litres per day, for beach camping where we tend to have longer showers getting rid of sand/salt prefer to be able to use 30 litres, so 6 to 9 days. We also have a 100 litre water bladder in the car rear footwell we can fill and use to refill the van tanks.

We carry over 300L of water. Over 200L as washing water and over 100L as drinking and cooking water.
How long the washing water lasts depends on when we expect to refill next time. It can be a few days or over a month.
Cheers,

A few times my wife and I camped with a group on some of Qld Capricorn Bunker Islands, taking all gear, food and water by barge. Water allowance was 5 Litres per person per day. Worked fine for our beach camping. Plenty of marine activities for us, so no BO problems. Sea soap if you wanted. The main washing of plates was in salt water.
Once I forgot the solar shower. 2 L Plastic milk bottle with pierced lid became our solar shower and that 2 Litres of water did two us for a shower as we were not grimy dirty.

Its a bit like my fuel consumption on one of my cars !! Gallons to smile around the block , 35+mpg cruising !! We last about two weeks . With 300ltres but never run out . With two I guess about 100l a week ? Including washing etc !! Weve stayed near beach or lake where we swim and just clean ourselves with a little soap !! Real shower we wet ourselves . Turn water off ., lather up with soap ., then wash off ., saving a heap of water . Strange you start showering like that at home !! Makes the soap work better !! ^^ to above ^^ Wish my bladder was that big !!

If one has enough solar you could just run an air conditioner & collect the water off the evaporator.
