Planned stops: depending on when we kick off from Kununurra, first night will be Katherine or Mataranka. I will be tenting it. Driver 2 would prefer a motel (but she may lose out).
2nd will be Barkly Homestead.
3rd is Kyuna or Winton. Then into Emerald. From there, we go on to my destination, drop off one car and head to her stop before I turn around and head back - a day trip at worst.
Cat has a travel box complete with space for food, water and litter so he doesn't need to get out. Dog is calm and used to long distance travel, but will be on lead every stop. Also has water in the car.
We will be carrying water and some fuel (60-80L of diesel). One car has a 112L tank, the other the standard - whatever the Ford Ranger comes with. Plan is to top up every chance I get (living in Halls Creek, where we regularly get drained dry has made me paranoid).
Anything to watch for - road conditions etc? We will NOT be roadside camping. Partly for safety, but mainly for the cat. He is not a good traveller and while his 'box' is a good size, he will stress (I can let him roam in the tent if we are in a relatively safe space for the night: less chance of having to move out fast).

Hi 2 Paws Up
I was last on those roads (Katherine to Emerald) a few years ago, at that time they were all bitumen, and in good repair
Having previously travelled with cats, I can only say, if you are going to let him roam in the tent, then buy a harness and secure the lead to something
As sure as the sun will come up tomorrow, once the tent flap opens, the cat will try and escape, faster than Harry Houdini
All the best on the trip

Waiting on Aust Post to deliver. Worst comes to worst, he stays in his box.

Many years ago I travelled from Adelaide to Proston S.E. Qld in two cars (3 days 3 nights) with 2 adults 4 children 4 cats in cat boxes and a dog.
As mentioned above cats will get out faster than you can blink so a harness is essential, one of ours actually managed to unlock his cage but luckily only got out in the car and the doors were shut at the time.
Also it wouldn't hurt to visit the vet before you go, our cats were given mild tranquilisers on leaving; we could have given them one pill a day on the journey but we found by the time the first one had warn off 3 of the cats had settled down (except for the escape, who we dosed again).
Good luck

Thank you! His Lordship is not a good traveller, I will ring the vet this morning.
