We have been home 8 weeks after been away 4.5 months to SA and WA. We had a great time away and met many more new friends along the way.
We took our dory/ dingy roof topper with us and caught dinner times over.
On our return trip we pulled in to our favourite little place we have loved, but could never get a slice of for 21 years. Well we had arrived but 3 minutes, when I got a tap on the shoulder. Get in my car, I have something to show you.What is it. Wait, just get in. So we did.
Before our eyes a hand painted for sale sign with a mobile ph number I took a photo of it, didn't have a pen, the hands were shaking type in the number quick says D wife. Whats this, the paint is still wet. Yep say's my friend. They are still here in town. Are you sh....ting me and D wife.
We met the owners, who had been left to them, by their mum.We we brought them a pot of tea and made an offer on the spot. Sorry We have had the same firm offer an hour ago by a local.
We told them our story of wanting to have a block to call home here for the last 21 years. Would you consider an extra $$$. They looked at each other and smiled, we don't want it, the other person owns three blocks already. its yours on a hand shake.
WE cried with joy. Can we take the sign down. Yes why not.We settled in record time. its ours YES.
How ever there's no services here. No council rates ever. We are off the grid.Out of area Nothing. Total. Like the the rest of the locals. We will build a big shed,Large water tanks, Septic tank and Solar with battery.
And best of all 100mtr to the beach and dropping the boat in for a spot of fishing, long walks along the beaches for months at a time every year.
In this part of the world, you phone your order ahead to IGA.You get you Groceries delivered from 140km away for $6.75 per 10kg box refridgerated. The truck has a speed dial in the cab. Ten minutes away you get a voice call. The truck pulls in and everyone collects from the one drop off. He's gone in no time to the next farm gate, to the end of his run. What a great service.

Ok, We have traveled backwards and forwards from NSW to WA so many times Now We keep stopping in this Settlement for weeks at a time in both directions on every trip in SA off the Eyre HWY.
Been out of area, No Rates are Payable. EVER. 21bloody years and luck comes our way. We brought in Paradise. with the whales and their carves waving at us every day in winter 100metres off the beach. When a block has come up, its gone in a blink. now you see it, now you don't. That's why we asked to take the sign down.

Oh yeah! your own little peace of paradise, I used to own 40 acres out bush totally off grid (25k to get power on in 1985) the latest and greatest 55w solar panels cost $550 each and the batteries were 2v 500 Ah I had 2 banks, back in those days you only had a choice of kero or gas for your fridge and running inverters was pretty much unheard of.
Luckily power had only been in the area about 20 years so there were still a few home lighting plant floating around, and I was lucky enough to score a 3 phase 3kva powered by a 6hp petters diesel, however it had been disconnected so long that the owner didn't know how it was wired up and the control board was around 40 years old. I rang the electrician that had installed it but he had died, anyway through the process of elimination and some knowledge of circuitry I was able to get it sorted and boom we had a remote/demand start diesel generator that came with it's on shed.
When we went to local town meetings we sometime were ask "did you power go out the other day?" hmm our power never goes out
I never regretted going to solar and not having those power bills every 1/4 was awesome. Btw diesel was cheap with the rebates but the generator was only used to do the washing or if the solar couldn't keep up as I only bought panels as funds became available.

Looks like an idyllic spot, particularly if you are into fishing.

Thankyou for turning my photo's right way up.
How you can do this, Could you please teach us.We are not great with computers up front.
We can't transfer the photo's from my Android phone camera to my apple I pad. So I Post from the Phone, for me is very small to use.
The photo's are the right way up when I post off the Samsung. When I look on the I pad, they come out every time up side Down. Are they not compatible been the reason????
Yes Fowlers Bay is for us. If you look at the photo with my wife's back to you, Look closely, There is a surf board rider in the little break. Behind her is a 60 -65 foot southern right whale 100metres off the beach with her calf.
We had up to 20 mums with calfs this season. And For the first time ever A baby Albino and her mum. As far as We know there has only been one Humpback Albino on the East Coast. We hope mum and her baby come back next year. Take a walk east along the beach with some towels to sit on. and enjoy.They come every year without fail to give birth in the calm waters of the bay.

I just Bluetooth between my android phone & well over a decade Mac. It's takes forever if there are a lot of photos, 200 max at a time from memory. But I have plenty of other things to do in the meantime.
