Hi all,
Well I found out the hard and fast way last Saturday afternoon.
Coming home home from the Big Green Shed in very light traffic on the A40 = Three lanes in Sydney. I'm motoring along under the posted speed limit in the kerb lane.
This Bimbo Lady makes a left lane change To get yet another feed of Mac er's, from what I through was the middle lane into the side of our car. Thankyou Honey! Thankyou.
Well She says its not her fault. What this I say's, Got your Licence please.I had my Daughters partner with me in the front seat at the time. Dash Cam captures the whole event.
Having Full Comprehensive Insurance I new we were going to get fixed up.
Got home and put a call through to your Pride and Joy to start the claim process. Supplied all the details + photo's of both cars damage + the A40 with Three lanes clearly marked.
You are NOT Entitled to a hire car under our LIGHT USE POLICY!!!!!!!??????? K. ........ HOWEVER UNDER NSW LAW You are Entitled to claim a hire car from the At Fault Drivers Insurance Company.
What a RELIEF. That IS Wait for it. That is if the other driver has ANY Insurance at all.
In this case I rang her the following day. Hullo Sarah, Grey calling, just calling to get your insurance details: Reply: I'll be up front, I don't have any insurance. K. Will fix things by.
Pride and Joy make contact with her. She Denies any responsiblity TOTAL.
So Grey sets about trying to upload the Micro 32g card to an old Apple I pad . K so dig out my Toshiba Satellite lap top (Windows 7) Maybe15years old now. Load the Micro into the SD card holder
And insert it in front. Ding dong yes going to load 56 images.
Two hours later it has loaded these. Now my Dash Cam tapes over old footage. I had the good sense to disconnect the power to save the recording.Trying to find the footage took till 1am last night.
frames31/32 jackpot. OMG MY DASH CAM RECORDS HER TRAVELING IN THE OUTER OF THE THREE LANES. ON APPROACH TO GROUND ZERO (McDonads) SHE HAS CROSSED THREE LANES TO MAKE THE ENTRANCE DRIVEWAY.
In doing so has wiped our car from front to rear. Dropped the car off to the repairer this morning. What happened. Told him. Don't hand over the footage till Pride and Joy Cough. See you in 2 maybe 3weeks. Serious!! yep. You are Intitled to an Uber ride.
Live and learn the hard WAY.
We can change the policy for an extra $250 to include a hire car from today only. Yer Right.
Its very common for comprehensive insurance to not include a hire car, when it does you pay extra for it. We chose not to have it on my small around town car to save the money, but to have it on our other car that we use for travelling. Insurance is generally a compromise between what you pay and what you get.

Unfortunately, Old & Grey, it isnt until you make a claim that it becomes very clear that reading and understanding the PDS of the Insurance Policy you are considering is the MOST important aspect of buying the insurance, and being very clear on what you do and dont get.
Price is a secondary concern, unless you are happy to forego some benefits to pay less.
You wouldnt be the first, and wont be the last, to find your insurance, that may have seemed a good deal at the time, isnt what you expected.
I suspect that may be what they say when they get your complaint, that they provided exactly what you had signed up for.
On another note, be careful and check things carefully if you do look at Right2drive, as I have seen some people complaining about the outcomes they got with them, especially where the other driver was uninsured or refused to pay.
Hope youre back on the road soon.

Someone drove into me this year, the person lied. I had to pay my excess. Anyway, I now have 6 cameras, 1 on every side of the car & an additional two in the front for redundancy. You can get High Endurance cards from Techbuy $61.90 256GB. I paid $70 earlier this year. https://www.techbuy.com.au/p/494718/MEMORY_CARDS_(SD)_MICRO_SECURE_DIGITAL/SanDisk/FFCSAN256GSQQNR1.asp

Suggest a complaint to the relevant road traffic authority, they may take action against the other driver on your evidence.

Also you may well find that DESPITE the accident is 100% the other drivers fault, you will find that your insurance policy on renewal, will go up significantly. I was a Rating 1 level A rated driver. Cost of repairs for an accident NOT my fault $700. Now rated as Rating 1 Level D. Comparing on line using different name etc but same model car and driving history etc, the difference was $225. Rang insurance company and was told you made a claim. Irrespective of who was at fault, you made a claim and although rating stayed the same (ie 1), level dropped so premium went up. Just changed to another company that does not do that. Company I used advertises frequently on TV as best rated insurance Company. Not any more. Caveat Emptor!!!.

Rating 1 means nothing as you can pay an extra premium to retain a Rating 1 for life. Premiums are based on a number of risk factors, and claims history is one of them. The best advice to all & sundry is to Read the Product Disclosure Statement (Policy to the old timers) and check your coverage and importantly, "what you are not covered for" and then & only then, Premium becomes a relevant factor.
