My wife and I (and dog) have booked our motorhome on the Spirit of Tasmania from Melbourne to Devonport on 25 February, now that the restrictions have been lifted. We have to check in at Station Pier by 7 am at the latest, and were wondering if anybody has found somewhere nearby to park overnight rather than staying in a relatively distant caravan park (involving getting up very early and navigating unfamiliar territory and possibly lots of traffic). Happy Xmas to all. RichardHM

Welcome to the gang Richard, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I hope we see you around here for more than this post.
Now, no recommendation but there is a caravan park slightly west of the good ship spirit called Honey Hush caravan park or something like that 93692253. Another is discovery parks Melbourne a tad north of the good ship 93186866. Another Werribee sth caravan park 97421755.
As I said, not recommending as have not stayed at any of them, just letting you know.

I see it's a Friday. Traffic is very heavy weekdays partly due to tunnel works.
I would allow a minimum of 1 hour from Werribee. Probably more.

Werribee is usually a good spot, but often booked out.

When we did this a few years ago we looked on google earth for an industrial area nearby. We drove there after peak hour and parked overnight in a spot we found, drove to terminal early next day.

You could consider Five ways caravan park at Dingley Village. It is about 26 km from the wharf.

The last time we went to Tassie camped on the Esplanade on the western side of Ferry.(car & caravan)
Didnt get hassled as there were a few of us doing the same thing, hopefully nothing has changed
wasnt no signs or meters like on the eastern side.

Near Avalon/little Rvr on the Hwy, beside the BP servo there is a free overnight spot. Often see campers and vans there. Bit rough perhaps and probably noisy, about 15 minutes further than Werribee.
I ride from Port Melbourne beach car park occasionally and there is always motor homes parked there waiting to get on the ferry. They look like they have been there all night.

Hi everyone
Thank you all for the suggestions - many and varied. after all that, I think we will park outside a friend's place in a nearby suburb so we can take him out to dinner and still be able to get up early the next morning.
Merry Xmas to all and have a safe and happy New Year.
