I dont believe we should patronise the Chinese, buy local when and if we can. They poisoned the world, murdered millions and their violations of human rights must be addressed.
The more we buy off China the more they are able to spend on their Military. Ammo that may come our way.

Seems to be a common opinion now given what the CCP has done to us all. I too will avoid buying Chinese goods where ever I can. Big big mistake to allow all our manufacturing to go to China over the years giving them massive growth, new Chinese millionaires by the bucket load, and domination in world markets.
They can now almost bring any country to it's knees through trade embargoes or just plain ignorance. Take their decision to cut exports of Urea...nearly killed ADblue production, being one of the largest producers of precious metals they again cut exports and successfully further crippled the production worldwide of micro chips....and that on top of the release of a virus which was able to put whole platoons of Defence Forces in quarantine...yep Chinese products are off my list.
Sadly too a visit to the Chinese Superstore...aka Big Green Shed...from what I have experienced has little on offer but cheap Chinese made stuff. Quality is a whole new discussion imo.

The box and, I think, chassis for my Snowy River van was made in China partly because I don't think there is a press in Australia large enough to make the six body panels, however all the fit-out is performed in Melbourne so does that make it Chinese or Australian? I imagine most things manufactured in Australia nowadays would have some Chinese made components.
In any event I cannot fault its quality after three years of living in it and thousands of kilometres driven. Nothing of significance has broken or failed and if it caught fire I'd buy another without hesitation.
The real fault here lies with governments of both parties who have totally failed to encourage industry in this country for the 28 years I have lived here - as most MPs are lawyers or professional politicians and, in general, would not know a screwdriver from a hammer this is not surprising... they have passed lots and lots and lots of laws though so that's nice.

Zero asbestos in Chinese cars now, only the early model X240 contained head gaskets with a small amount of asbestos in the gasket = zero concern. Most vehicles 20 yrs ago or more had asbestos used widely in gaskets and brake pads.

The answer to that would be zero asbestos in any new Chinese cars. It was only ever one early Chinese model Great Wall vehicle, the X240 that had a small degree of Asbestos in the head gaskets. They posed zero to minuscule risk to anyone, just scare mongering hype.

PIG IRON BOB was mentioned, he sent iron ore to JAPAN they sent it back as bombs an bullets .we are exporting all the raw materials to china to fuel their growth, then after the war the Japanese copied everything we needed ,cheaply, most was jap crap, then the quality was improved now JAPAN is a important trading partner an ally and their products are second to none .
Chinese quality is improving and in some brands of caravans that have been around for a while( they fixed/improved what failed) are as good as some manufactured here that use imported products in their construction . the cost of buying a imported caravan has increased due to cost and shipping so they must survive on quality because the price difference is not that great these days( comparable items) does JAYCO import some of their campers ?
as far as " i would never buy a Chinese motor vehicle" a lot of people(in my life time ) said that about Japanese cars now no cars manufactured in Aust
as far as building thing here we have a high expectation of our own worth . we want to be paid big dollars for our effort even if we do not produce anything .we are not going to go without our big cars or maybe two per house, couple of big tv's annual holidays, mobile phones ect all the thing we take for granted .
i was under the impression that most of the imported vans were assembled here

The big difference between Japan and China is that Japan has an elected government which other countries may negotiate trade deals that are honoured.
China on the other hand is a Dictatorship.
Apart from what they have the world believe they are not a freely elected government and they have displayed that they cant be trusted in trade or any deal including patents.
Another important difference between Japan and China is that China hasnt had the big ABomb visit them, yet.
Our pollies both past and present have ignored many of Chinas misgivings and illegal activities just to get a bite of the poisoned apple.

what difference does "made under license" make, still made in china by people who work to survive at subsistence levels. we have lost our manufacturing industries because we can't afford to work for basic wages , we still have an unemployment rate of approx 5% (people on the dole) with thousands of jobs going begging ,because it is not worth going to work because people are better off staying home then doing some of those jobs. the bosses are crying poor saying they need the o/s worker to fill those jobs and those people are better off getting ripped off here then the are trying to make a living in their own countries

We did see the Snowy River at last years Maitland show. The wife and I were impressed with the internal quality and the van overall.
As said by others I would stay clear of anything to do with China regardless but very hard to do that with many items. Considering the embargo's they placed on us
we still sell their cars and vans!!!!

A businessman I know imported Chinese camper trailers, the finish wasn't too bad but if you cared to look underneath the welding and galvanizing was absolute garbage, thier QA and "Care Factor" were typically poor, like most things they do. The campers never got going past the first few shipments due to the Chinese manufacturer copying his designs and sending them all over the place under their own brand and ceasing supply to the Oz business, typical! I make it my goal to buy anything other than Chinese made, although it is hard to do nowadays.
