Just saw on the news tonight....fuel is expected to rise to $2.50 liter in the next month!
And I've just planned a trip from Ballarat to Adelaide Hills, up to Peterbrough, across to Broken Hill, down to Mildura, across to Echuca, back home.
Gonna hit the wallet hard, but we are tired of sitting home for the last two years!!

Enjoy your trip away Collo & hang the expense. We're away on a 3 week trip , the first since a 2 week trip in March last year. The 2 week trip last year was the only one since Covid started. It feels great to be away again. We used to spend half of every year away in the 10 years before Covid. Diesel is $2.05 here but hey, who cares?
You can't take the cash with you when you die, which for many of us isn't too far away.

We just started planning yet another jaunt down the NSW East Coast around October this year. We'll need it top get over the stress of renovating our kitchen (just what 80YO's aught to be doing, hey).
Looks like I'll have to double the fuel estimate. Not a small cost with the EFI GQ Patrol that guzzles about 19L/100K.
But so what. It's all a part of the experience. Just have to drop the quality of the wine LOL. Not bloody likely!
We are assuming of course that all those unfortunate people effected by the floods are back up and running again.
Cupie, be wary of this one then X Oh' Pinot Grigio 2017. Found a quarter full bottle on the road near my driveway this morning.

I can remember in 1978 Super petrol was about 20 cents Ltr, I was getting $200 a week as a mechanic. In my way of thinking it should now be about $1.00 a Ltr.

Since I bought the newer much cheaper to run on petrol then the last diesel expensive thing, I had done a lot less bicycle camping then I have ever done before. Loving the new camper, and set up for quick trips out. I have now decided to go back and do more bike trips. The wife, can take trips or leave it, as she has a pretty good full life of just enjoying her retirement from home. So bicvcle touring is back on the cards. Am starting a much more in depth training regime, to get me back to touring fitness. My range of trips normally are further then I ever do in the car, so costs are only for food on the bike for the dog and I.

We're heading towards Warrnambool next week, guessing we'll support the fuel companies/Govt a fair bit but in turn we may get a partial pension again soon!
The bank account has been getting hit rather heavy of late - council rates, suspension upgrade on the car, lots of other biggish bills.
Fuel has been going up two to three times a week here in Townsville. Prices for diesel vary from 223 to 187c/litre here.
I do remember buying diesel at Wilcannia at over $2.00 a litre when we had the MQ Patrol & that was a few decades ago! If you need it, you have to buy it - perhaps down the road it might be cheaper.

Excise is fixed at 44.2 cents per litre, supposedly all goes back to roads via Federal Govt.
GST is 10% of retail, so it is a moveable feast for State Govts, the higher the price the more they can feast, getting fatter and more bloated by the day.

Yes there is no rhyme or reason re pricing.
Planning a run to 2a.
Fuel in Adelaide is slightly more expensive than Kununurra and pt headland
Work that out and get back to my wallet

Oil goes up 10% they increase the price 30%. Because people are gullible and government does nothing,
, more GST for them.

Most of us will remember when petrol was around 35c - 40c a gallon...the along came Metrics and fuel pretty well over night became around 12c a litre. Then it began to creep up and up and up.
I still occasionally convert the price per litre to imperial gallons for a reality check...I paid $2.197 a litre for diesel yesterday in Brisbane. That is around $9.90 per gallon!
The Yanks are moaning currently as they are paying around 88c a litre in our currency, or $3.50 a gallon in their measure...
The population has become accustomed to wildly fluctuating furl prices here in Oz, where fuel can move 10c or more a litre overnight, or 45c + a gallon. Who would have ever thought that possible.
I had a discussion a few days ago over dinner with an Economist and said that i believed it criminal and unjust that a Servo would increase the price of the fuel at the bowser overnight on the same fuel in the ground that he'd paid far less for...effectively doubling or tripling profit.
His argument was that the Servo owner would have to replace the fuel in the storage tanks at a higher price, therefore he was only replacing each litre he sold at the higher price he would have to pay.
I still hold the belief that it is profiteering...imo once the Servo owner receives a fuel delivery at a higher price then fair enough, price goes up, even though the remaining fuel in the storage tanks was bought at a lower price....therefore imo he would still be well in front.
I had a couple of petrol bowsers outside a caravan park general store I owned back in the 80's. I kept the price way down only adding 5c a litre to the price per litre I paid on the delivery...that was fair I thought.

Consider this
A bottle of 375ml driving water purchased from a snack bar or some sporting venues can cost of to $4 a bottle which equate to $12 (approx) per litre.
Ok, it is cheaper in bulk purchases from the Supermarket and even cheaper to refill from home water.
But no petrol in the tank and one does not travel via a petrol-driven vehicle.
They get us accustomed to petrol slowly going up and down ( more ups) so we then seem to accept the new price.
Last week I was elated that I filled the car with 50 litres at $1.83 and patted myself on the back for saving $20.
Sign of the times.
The future price could be $3 and beyond.
Like I say "Change is the most common thing in life."

Have you checked the latest figures. RAC WA did a test drive using a KIA EV. Around 800kms on one charge. Need to get
the latest information before you make comparisons to what is was back in the days of dinosaurs. Things move a lot quicker than you
lot care to keep up with. Here is a classic illustration of how things move:
My first job in about 1980 was in a bank. The computer was that physical size of a medium car and the A/C to keep it all
cool about the same. Fast forward to 2020 - I have a phone with many times the computing power of this old clunker,
which was the state of the art back then (IBM), and it fits in my pocket and does not require dedicated A/C.
So by the time we get to the end of the year, there's every chance we could have an EV that could do Adelaide to Kalgoorlie
and return one charge. Maybe even have solar panels to boost it along.

All very well if you live in a town, theres no such thing as 3 phase where i live on a SWER line. Transformer may be 10Kw. The other problem with EVs is the price, unless they get very cheep i certainly wont be interested. Interesting LPG at the moment is half the price of petrol. Which is good as my vehicle is dual fuel.
