now that fuel has hit the highest ive have ever seen ......my partner and i have composed a list of towns less than 100k from us and places that have shops within walking distance as well......we are in Elizabeth so have got 10 places that we can go to ......however this may have to be looked at if fuel goes up anymore then the days of vanning might be finished ........next trip for us is end of the month to ardrossan bit over 100 but it was booked some time ago and a deposit paid it could be the last long run ......

Having a bad day Clifford? I think many people care about many things, even if your thread hasnt excited them today!
People may just not feel like discussing this here. There are a couple of other threads about costs already going.
I suspect we will see fuel retreat a bit when the situation in Ukraine settles. I expect the day of the long road trip to be a way off yet.
We are off to Yorke Peninsula next week for 10 to 12 nights, and fully expect to head off towards the Top End for 8 to 10 weeks later in the year. We will just have to budget a bit more, and cut back on some of the wine, women and song we had planned.
Enjoy Ardrossan, and I hope you get a lot more trips yet.

100 kms from Elizabeth, South Australia will put in some of the "Go to" tourist Mecca`s to be found in SA.
We travelled from Mandurah in WA to enjoy your location. Stayed in Hahndorf for 2 weeks and still didn't see it all.
You could enjoy you local area for a long time.
If you are off to the York peninsula, we were there for 2 weeks, could have stayed for 2 months.
Not sure if this will help, but I thought I would try to brighten your day with some options.
Plus, I would suggest that you give a post a day or 2 for replies

well we have to travel 185km round trip to shop every 2 weeks, I don't usually take the car, that I could take instead, due to the fact, that I don't think it is right, but for the next few months at these prices, I will have to take the DVA car. We have a very important trip to take, in April, that has been put off few times for various reasons. It is a 12 hour round trip normally, but we will be camping both ways this time, not looking forward to that expense, but luckily have got a cheaper car to run.

If say fuel has gone up 50c per litre, our tank is 70 litres, to fill it will cost an extra $35.
A tank of fuel gets us around 550kms.
A small cost increase we think.
It won't make any difference to our travels.
We don't smoke, but a packet of fags cost $35.

It a pretty small forum, which has its own benefits, the chances that anyone online looking at this particular thread with a good knowledge of the area within the original post required timeframe is pretty slim.
Currently people online 4 - 8 statically based on the live threads & people with a good knowledge around Adelaide one would be very lucky to get any feedback in 168 hours.

Hi Clifford,I know you only go to Caravan parks, and you get a lot of auction deals to keep costs down.
But if you set yourself for free camping you save a lot on caravan park fees.
Most parks are $30 to $40 or more per week, two weeks free camping will save you $ 490 or more, that leaves a lot extra to pay for fuel.

I had planned the skeleton of a trip later in the year but decided to revise the fuel financials given recent price changes.
The trip is one of our favourites, down the NSW East Coast from Brisbane.
This time we decided to stay over for a week or so at Corindi & then on to SWMBO's favourite Macquarie Breakwall CP for a week & then back home with a stop off about halfway home for a few days (perhaps Woolgoogla or Ballina).
We usually stay at CPs and an occasional Showgrounds.
My fuel estimate (for the thirsty GQ EFI Patrol) jumped from $504 to $750!!!!
SWMBO says .. 'don't worry, fuel prices will fall by then'. I hope so. But we booked our favourite sites anyway. Yep, we not only have fav CPs but also fav sites too LOL.
BTW to give us a gap in our calendar we cancelled our repeat booking at Noosa River CP. That was a hard decision as it was a great site in one of the best SEQ CPs. Be hard to get back in next year.

I agree with you Cupie Corindi is a nice place we usually stay at the Redrock CP which is at the northern end of the beach. At Redrock you will need to get fresh water from their rainwater tanks if you get low but if you're using their amenities that shouldnt be very often. If you want a place to stay on the way back from Port try either the Urunga CP or right on the riverbank at the Repton CP both are only 15min drives to Belingen or 20 mins via the freeway to Coffs .. I cant comment on tea spoons post as I dont know the area that he is talking about but I agree with him that if fuel prices stay at their current level or even go higher then we may need to rethink how we are planning our trips..
Cheers

Yes the cost of fuel is a killer, but travelling you have to take the good with the bad.
Fuel prices for a while are going to be like the stock market fluctuating every other day.
Last week I filled up the wifes Subaru with 98. I paid $2.35 per litre. Ive just checked and today at the same service station it is $2.25 per litre.
Thats life at the moment, but I (and I know every one is different) wouldnt let the price of fuel restrict my ability to travel this wonderful country

Who knows. If the price of fuel remains high and becomes a determining factor in how far one travels, then perhaps a lot of the caravan parks who are presently charging exorbitant site fees for a bit of ground with power and water access may have to reconsider their charges.
People may not be too keen on paying out a heap for fuel only to arrive and have the park take care of what is left in their kick. I can think of many places that would not survive financially if they had to rely solely on people living nearby for their income.
