I'm planning a few days at the Kenilworth camping expanse
and notice that theres a warning on W Camps that the
Obi Obi road is unsuitable for caravans.
Does anyone have knowledge of this road?

It would be 20 years since we have been on the Obi Obi Road but I seriously doubt that it has changed much.
The unsealed road starts down on the flat country then proceeds though farming land before rising up into the Great Deviding Range via a steep twisting road.
As I remember and as a transport driver the road is not real practical for a car towing a caravan. Wikicamps there is signage warning you of this.
It is a great day out drive with waterfalls, dams, views and lots of eateries up on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Drove the road today - first time in many years.
Large yellow sign says it all - "Caravans Prohibited" and after driving it toay there is good reason why. Our van would have absolutely no chance of getting around some corners.

Don't even think about it

Geez - glad I asked.
Looking at it on Google seems to be surfaced all the way, - maybe
it has been done since Radar was there?
Replanning route. Thanks.

Re Obi Obi Road: Up is sealed, Down is good firm gravel. Drive according to the conditions. Do not even think of trying to take a van either up or down, the fines are horrendous plus the cost of using a crane if you get stuck.

Hi Radar,
on a post regarding the Obi Obi Road having a 'Caravans Prohibited' sign, you mentioned it was on Wikicamps - do you remember where you saw that advice? I'm searching on Wikicamps but can't find any reference to it.
Cheers,
Col.

Hi Col,
No I don't know where the " of suitable for caravan sign" was but there was an other sign reading "not suitable for long vehicles".
Like a few others have said, quote "the road has not changed much in twenty years.
NOT Suitable For Long Vehicles.

Hi Colin, Whilst I have not driven this road a bit of research shows that it is restricted to vehicles of maximum length 8.8 metres. Watched a video of a journey down the road, and it appears to be no big deal, but I'd have to actually drive it before commenting further.
Not many cars and vans under 8.8 metres, I suspect? Cheers

If your car is small enough length won't be an issue!

I've ridden a big cruiser motor bike down this road. It was about 8 years ago and only happened because the Road Captain had no clue. Very interesting ride and I wouldn't do that again. I also drove a pantec down to Kenilworth on this road back in the 90's and that was kinda' scary. If the downhill road hasn't changed, I wouldn't ride a horse down it.

Having experienced a shocking road so 10 years ago, I would have to claim that it is perhaps one of the worst roads we have travelled.
Would not recommend it to anyone. My view only.

The sign on the road, just after you turn onto Obi Obi Road on the Mapleton end, no long after you turn onto it. There is a similar one just as you turn off the Eumundi-Kenilworth rd at the other end. The signs just where the road splits and turns to a gravel descent of the hill. If you click on the road a few times you can read all 5 signs relating to the descent. If you keep clicking, you can follow the road to the bottom.
You can use the Google street view to look along any road that the Google car has driven.
