Hi all,
We're looking at diesel heaters for our 14' Off Road Van. There seem to be plenty available from $250 - $700 or more. Any recomendations.
Cheers DR.

Hi. There is plenty of suppliers of Chinese diesel room heaters on Ebay.
There has been a bit of activity on this forum about diesel heaters. Use the seach button to have alook.
I am a bit old fashion about buying over the internet but I did buy our one there and very happy.
My rule if I can not speak with a human, I try the next seller until I can speak with a human.
I like to make sure I am on the same page as the add. The delivery and is it in Australia.
19 foot caravan and we have a 2.5KW heater which is awesome and very cheap to run.
I thought you would of got more replies. Sorry about that.

Fitted this brand under the seat in 2014,still going strong
I installed a Webasto (expensive Brand) in our Fifth Wheeler 10 years ago and a Second hand Chinese Diesel Heater in our "Slide-on" in more recent years and both have performed without a fault. We still have and use both units. My only advice is to make sure the power supply cabling is "big enough" (depends on how far the Heater is from the Power Supply ) to prevent "Voltage drop on Start up" and that you use Winter Diesel or some Kero in Summer Diesel for the fuel (otherwise the diesel can freeze and or Gel in the fuel line when Temps. are near Freezing - right when you need the Heater!)
Diesel Heaters in a caravan are the best thing since Sliced Bread..... KB

The 3 Chinese heaters I have seen, have very little marking on them.
Our 2kw is marginal smaller then a 5kw in physical size and weight.
Another branded expensive one has a sticker on it for $2000 more. He fitted his before me but ours has done a lot more work since being installed. We have been able to use our caravan a lot more during covid times.

Truma Combi D6 is what I have, one of the more expensive brands that quickly heats my van, up to 30c if wanted, but also supplies my hot water. Where I am at present has recently had cooler mornings around 3c but because heater has a thermostat I just leave it on 19c overnight so I wake up to a warm van!. Uses very little diesel and works brilliantly in 6 metre van. Highly recommended as you can discard your water heater completely . Cheers

Dust, I just read a review about these heaters and appear to be middle of the road cost wise. Its was an Australian who provided his opinion of the unit.

It can be difficult to state a brand when buying cheap ( but quite often good) chinese knock offs.
It is probably the case that the same company makes branded units for retailers who sell at a premium price but we may never know.
If buying off eBay for what it is worth I have a look at the sellers approval figures and if possible read as many comments about the seller as possible. Sometimes it will even state how many units they have sold.
This generally gives me a reasonable assessment of their business practice and quality of goods.
If you do end up with a problem then quite often PayPal will help to negotiate a refund and sometimes that is better than arguing with an Australian retailer who keep your money and blame China.
I am just about to the position where if the seller doesnt accept PayPal then I dont deal with them.

Thanks guys, I bought an unbranded 2.5, with 2 years warrantee. . I know.
Anyway, wow wee they work well. If it lasts 12 months I'll be happy, if it last 2 years even happier. It gets tested next month in northern S.A.
