In my van I have what is I think called an L shaped seat and table with foam cushions and back. I usually don't use the inside seating unless I am using the computer or eating inside because of the weather. Anyway, after months of thinking that the seating was uncomfortable I toddled along to a local upholsterer and took the offending seat cushion. It felt firm enough but anyway, he ripped out the old foam and put in some high density foam and what a difference. The seat is now actually very comfortable and supportive, all for just a few dollars.
He told me that the original stuff that was used in the van was low grade quality and that this foam should last for years. How about that.

DMaxer hi.
Did the same to our caravan late 2021, made our dinning arrangements so much better.
June this year a new custom made mattress and after 50 nights, we are so happy.

Yep, good quality foam is well worth having.
The inner spring mattress in our caravan is not as comfortable as the foam mattress in the off road camper trailer that we sold two years ago.
We have an ''egg shell'' foam overlay on our inner spring mattress & it's still not as comfortable.

Funny you should say that Dmaxer:
My caravan has the common cafe type seating and I always sit on the same side, the other side has hardly been used. Being in Victoria I spend a decent amount of time inside the van and the other day I thought the cushion on "my side" felt a bit soft so I sat on the other side to test the difference... chalk and cheese! So I too decided that a reupholstery was now high of the list of "Things To Do."

Good idea Mike. The upholsterer told me he would use high density foam not the cheap stuff they initially use in the furnishing of the van. He also told me that he would reinforce the areas where the most pressure is applied and that it will spring back into shape unlike the cheap stuff. All this he did.
He also told me that he used foam that is not flammable. Great value for money I thought.

I shouldn't bang on about this but whilst the part of the seat I usually use was in at the upholsterer's shop, I used the other side of the L lounge and thought how comfortable it was because it is never used as I sit in the same spot each time I use the table. However...(drum roll) this new seat is miles better than even the unused one in the van. Before I would get a back ache after about twenty minutes, now, well I could sit here for hours and post argumentative posts to Mike.

That's an unfair advantage Dmaxer (typical lawyer trick), I'd better hurry and get mine reupholstered so I can respond to them :)
