I was looking at replacing my Carefree awning and contacted a local caravan repairer. He told me that it had been very difficult to obtain Carefree parts and there had not been any around for months.
He also let me know that a shipment of about 700 had now arrived into Aus and the supply would now be okay.
It seems there has been an issue with lots of van accessories.
How about that.

We needed a new carefree awning for our Van in June and were told nothing till Nov. Repairer put on a Dometic, I think it's a better awning.

Our Dometic awning needs new material.
Every place that we've contacted wants to almost replace the whole unit.
They seem to be obsessed with insurance claims also.
None of them are interested in material replacement only.
Our awning works as good as the day we bought our caravan new.

You are not wrong there 86GTS. My replacement vinyl is with a new roller. It is 8 years old and a bit creaky now however.

86 GTS,
If you are happy to take a trip to Ballarat, try Pinnacle wholesalers, 53429651. We purchased an awning skin at a very good price then they send you round the corner to a chap who will install it while you go for a cup of coffee. Can't be 100% sure of his fee but I think it was $60 or thereabouts. Very good service.
Discaimer.
We have no connection to this company.

Sitting here under my awning and looking at it I would have thought changing the fabric would be relatively straightforward?
Pull out the old awning to its normal extent
Cut it from left to right
Remove the two pieces
With two people on step ladders feed new awning into sail track and roller
Am I right?
(Mind you I'd happily pay someone $60 to do that for me :)

If only it was that simple.
Feeding the material into the sail track is easy, but you have to drill & remove the end of the roller to get the other edge in which isn't as easy as it seems.

Most places opt for fitting a new roller.
