Caravans & Camper-Trailers being Inspected at Caravan Shows

It is reported that Caravans & Camper-Trailers, being offered for sale, are being discreetly inspected at various Caravan Shows, by professional sleuths, in order to detect - and obtain proof of - Non-Compliances with the vehicles, and breaches of the Australian Consumer Law by Sales Personnel.
All Conversations with Suppliers' personnel will be duly noted.
This critical information will be supplied to Solicitors, acting on behalf of a large number of highly-aggrieved Caravanners.
It will also be supplied to the ACCC.
There has been a flood of serious complaints of problems with both Caravans and Suppliers.
A high percentage of complaints relate to caravans being so-called "ACCREDITED" - only to find that the apparent "Auditing" was far from being professional and comprehensive.
It is not known if non-compliant vehicles will be removed from the Shows.
It is hoped that this sort of professional auditing will go a long way to significantly benefit caravan owners and potential-buyers.

Won't deal with the lack of after sales service from dealers and manufacturers.

Maybe not, but getting a safe road-worthy caravan built to Aust Standards would eliminate many of the warranty claims that the dealers claim isn't their responsibility.
I just hope the ACCC or whomever is checking the units at the show record all details of their interaction with the spruikers to use as evidence in upcoming hearings and tribunals.

Wow, talk about a negative attitude
Someone goes to the trouble to post something positive with the potential to help future buyers and along comes one of our Cobber's and takes that attitude. Really Cobber, you can do better than that.

No just stating the facts. 2 Caravans, different brands, 2 well below after sales service. How can this be negative?

Who are these professional sleuths? Story lacks credibility without this info. Please let us know Colin1947.

One of the major issues is that there are very few standards when it comes to caravans.
The only standards currently are for the obvious 240 volt electrical and gas installations and some ADR's relating to the running gear and the tow attachment parts.
Other than that, basically a manufacturer can get a chassis and stick whatever piece of crap on top of it he wants without issue.
Even the windows and doors don't have a standard. The windows in your house now have a lot of standards they have to meet with testing standards they have to pass and they are mandatory. Caravan ones don't have any of that as well as many other products that go into a van.
So what is needed are some hard and fast rules as to what manufacturers must abide by when constructing a van and big fines if they don't. Large penalties too if they don't abide by the current consumer law with regards warranties.
And most of all it needs to be policed. Laws are toothless unless they are enforced.
If this is done we would see the dodgy manufacturers disappear from the industry and/or the whole standard in the industry lifted considerably.
Currently, even if there are inspections taking place, unless the rules are there, what are the inspections going to reference against. Currently very little.
