I've been playing the guitar since I was 14 years old.
I also play ukulele & mandolin.
I have an extensive collection of electric & acoustic gutars.
When we go away on trips I like to take two instruments with me on a rotational basis.
I play rock, blues, jazz & folk music from all eras
Its a very satisfying experience sitting out in the bush surrounded by nature playing & singing my favourite songs.
Even better with a glass of wine at hand.

I also take a guitar on the road when out there. I had an experience at Fisherman's Rest near Mitchell a few years back. In those days I was in a Kombi and had rolled out the awning and decided to play a few country songs (my preference). There were a few caravans near the river below us. As I started to play someone from one of the vans came out, jumped in to a 4WD and drove up the bank and parked in front of the Kombi. I looked at my wife and remarked that we must have disturbed them. Anyhow, the driver jumped out and put his head under the awning and asked if he could sit down for a while. I said ok but could only offer the caravan step as we did not have a spare camp chair. He said that would be fine. I played a few more songs and then asked if he could play. He said he could so I said it was his turn. He asked if I had a thin plectrum. I found one and thought well you now have no excuse not to play. He played and played very well. After a while I found out who it was. It was Owen Blundell. After a while he looked at his watch and remarked that he was supposed to be Mitchell so he left in a hurry. What an experience.

I've had a few sessions with other people while on the road I think the last one was at Port MacDonnell in SA. Always a lot of fun.
My mandolin seems to attract people in free/bush camps, people just love the warm sound it produces.
The classic "Copperhead Road" was made for the mandolin.

Never forget years ago,the afternoon that Terry Bennett pocked his head into our annex up at 80 mile beach and asked if I wanted to play in his concert that night. Sure I said although I had never heard of him , well what an experience, two songs me leading and singing he was just brilliant followed my amateurish guitar playing.
Still take the guitar every trip.
