I have placed an order for a new Crusader Esperance 'van. It comes with two single beds, which suits me fine as I will be a solo traveller.
I am getting confusing dimensions for the WIDTH of the single mattress.
Some of Crusader's specs show the width is 2'3" (= 686mm), but I measured the mattresses in an Esperance in the Adelaide dealer's yard, and it was definitely 2'6" (760mm).
The actual width is important as I will be having mattress toppers and fitted sheets made to suit, before I pick up the 'van.
I did a google search for "what size is a 'caravan single' bed in Australia" and pretty much all of the info was 760mm wide is the 'standard' for a caravan single mattress - the standard single bed is 3'0".
If there are any Crusader Esperance or Crusader Chameleon owners on the forum, I would greatly appreciate it if you could measure the mattress width and report back.
Please note that the Crusader Esperance and Crusader Chameleon 'vans are a smaller van of about 2m width. It is possible that wider 'vans may allow room for wider beds.
Cheers,
glids

Welcome to the gang glids, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I have single beds in my Aluminium TeePee and they are both 760mm wide. The way I designed my TeePee both beds are the same length but in many vans with singles one is slightly longer.
That all said, I have put a board across the two bases and have a King Single east west. I had to do that for health reasons. I am Solo and travel full time, so works for me.
I left the original as was for resale value.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

In our Evernew the two single bed mattresses are 760 X 2000 (2ft 6 inch X 6ft 6in approx).
In some narrow vans they do use child size singles - possibly OK if vertically challenged, but not for us as we are both tallish. As you are getting van made, order standard beds - you're the customer.

If some Crusaders have different size mattresses then I would be contacting them or whoever you ordered it with and ask what size your mattresses will be , or wait till you get the van to be 100%

I've had 2 vans. In my first van, I moved a topper from my bed in the house and I needed to cut it down to fit. I have a second topper in my current van, and that also needs cutting down. I would definitely be asking. My vans have both had beds not as wide as my "normal" bed inside.

Hi Ian,
I have contacted the dealer, even contacted the factory although I have not had a direct reply from them.
The problem is that the dealer says they have been told by the factory that the beds are 2'3" wide. I measured one in the Adelaide dealer's yard and it was definitely 2'6" wide.
Does not make much sense!
Cheers from another Ian G :)

Hi glids,
What sort of topper were you planning?
We have a foam topper on our bed, egg crate type and thin enough for me to cut to fit with large scissors, after I marked it out with a felt pen.
If the topper is too thick and not covered, businesses like Clark Rubber can cut the foam and latex toppers. Usually the cost is pretty reasonable. Their shop, near me, cut a full thickness foam and latex mattress that we purchased from them, for $10. Cut to length and two rounded corners.

My original topper I moved from inside is a latex topper. I cut it with an electric knife and that was easy. It's thicker than the egg crate foam, but is easy to cut with an electric knife on a wooden cutting board.
