I am about to install a grey water tank to my New Age Big Red 19. The way the van is set up the additional weight just rear of the rear axle will not cause me any concern, I believe.
is it as simple as installing the tank and running the existing waste water plumbing into this tank and attaching a valve to the outgoing side of the tank so that if I want to let waste out while in a caravan park, I open the valve and if I wish to retain the grey water, close the valve until I wish to drain out the saved grey water.
please advise if you believe I need to do anything else.
cheers

Morning Shakey,
That is how my grey water tank is set up (since build) and in same location. Only thing is, you can hear the water trickling into the tank but no big deal, just thought I'd chuck that in, so you are aware.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.
Edit.....Just as a little after thought, install so there is a slight slope to the out valve.

Dougwe has answered the lot except you are potentially changing the yaw (swaying) of van with additional weight past the rear axles - We have never been questioned regarding grey water and only having portable grey water collection. Really consider whether it is worth fitting a permanent tank.

Good point there, Possum, with the overall effect exacerbated by the (presumed) removal of weight from in front of the van's axle group. This obviously will have the effect of lowering towball weight, but provided that the new tank is kept as close as possible to the axle group the effect probably is minimal. Emptying the water tank closest to the axle group first would certainly help. Probably worthwhile mentioning that any weight 2 metres behind the axle group has 4 times the effect of that same weight only 1 metre behind the axle group. If OP has a Y62, for example, probably no cause for concern, but any vehicle with a short wheelbase and low rear axle carrying capacity would be negatively affected by any extra weigh behind the axle group. Also worth mentioning is that Grey water quickly becomes Black water if the tank is not regularly emptied. Cheers

G'day Shakey, tis me again.
In 8 years, I have never had any problem with the tank were fitted. Just saying. My rig travels level and well balanced, no sway, nothing overweight either. I tow according to conditions etc. I am very conscious of weights and measurements etc. I tow with and what is in my signature. I do empty as soon as I can though in appropriate places.
I have been checked in a couple of free camp roadside rest areas by authorized Rangers and all good. On one occasion at the Waverly Creek Rest Area, north of Rockhampton QLD a Ranger was happy with my set up but suggested I put a cap on the outlet pipe just in case some smarty pants Ranger in bad mood said I was 'dripping' water on the ground. I thought it was a good idea so sorted that at my destination. I travel without it on and just slip it on when needed.
I do agree though with Possum, if not really needed think twice. I decided at the build time to have one fitted and have no regrets at all.

In most cases you wouldnt travel with full grey tank anyway . I nearly always dump it before traveling .. Be more concerned with attachments and clearances.

I have motorhome with greywater tank fitted and each drain has one of these valves to stop backflow and smell coming from the tank. As an example when you empty sink the water may come into the shower because it is lower than the sink.......www.outbackequipment.com.au/seaflo-pvc-waste-valve-hepo-valve-white
