my legal friend has warned me re an insurance being denied due to
an out of date extinguisher failing to operate.

They also need to be regularly whacked around a bit to keep the powder inside from packing down to a solid mass.

I have a rubber mallet that I give each extinguisher a tap all around at the start of every month. I have been doing it for years now.

Not sure about other States, but in NSW blocks of Units have to provide their local Council with fire safety certificate every year.
A couple of years ago the fire extinguisher service forget to check our fire extinguishers in our building.
I pulled them up on that one, but really, should the layperson be wiping the bums of businesses doing certified work to make sure they do the work as per legislation & what we have paid for every year for over a decade.
One could just as easily lose a bit of radioactive material due to total incompetence!
