How do you feel about the coming cashless society and the power that that
situation will give the banks and pollies that influence the banks?
Recently I followed the situation in the UK and in USA of a Politician and a
Doctor that stepped out of line from the dictated narrative.
In a flash all the victims accounts and those of family were closed without
notice.
Then what? Both instances were over "misinformation or anti-political party lecturing.
It couldn't happen in Au, could it?

We use as much cash as we can to pay all purchases.
It is getting more difficult. Can't pay out block of units levy notice in cash anymore.
There was a blackout recently in my area, a small shop could still take cash. No one else had cash.
At lunch I often buy something pre packaged. $5.00 cash $6.00 electronic transfer. Rarely do I see anyone pay cash so they went without lunch.
Ironically there are more $50 & $100 notes in "circulation" then ever before, so are being stored somewhere under the bed!

Hi All, I fear that the cashless society is closer than we think. When this occurs there is no doubt that banks and pollies will have a lot more to say about the way we do business, and it will not be to our advantage!
More and more businesses are adding 2% to card transactions. The era of getting a discount for cash will well and truly be gone in the near future methinks.

I don't like the way it's going & it's implications of 'control' - because I have little doubt that that is what it is about.
It's been a long time coming. Governments of all colours have subscribed to the path we are on to greater or lesser extents. So much so that in the UK currently anyone with a 'voice' against what is happening are being 'cancelled' by corporate fed spin doctors.
However I also think it is inevitable so long as we, the people, continue to vote for political parties on the basis of our own personal needs that we'll get what we deserve. Blaming politicians is just abrogating our responsibilities as citizens & misses the target. Arguing about such matters has the relative few who have the real wealth rubbing their hands with glee. The arguing only results in ever greater blame of each other for our bad lot.
Until such time as we stand up for each other the corporates & their oligarchs will continue their control of everything we need, lining their pockets , controlling our governments & controlling us to ensure their ever expanding wealth. We let them do it because they promise us the wealth of capitalism, but in reality all that happens is the rich get richer (& more powerful) & the rest of us get poorer & increasingly disempowered. Easiest way to deal with that is to shrug our shoulders & point the blame at others who look or behave differently but are essentially in the same boat of trying to survive whilst the rich few get richer. Just look at the latest bank profits whilst homelessness increases as an example. We fight among ourselves but never see the target.
My wife & I saw this coming back in the days of Thatcher, it was the primary reason we left the UK for a better life in Australia, but the Thatcher style politics not only followed us here, but spread right around the globe. Survival instincts of the individual have been encouraged & survival of healthy communities ignored. As long as we do what the rich want - believe the lie that if only we work harder & smarter to improve our lives we can aspire to be like them, & be 'better' than our fellow citizens, the pattern of the rich getting ever richer at our expense won't change. All that will happen is greater selfishness-driven division among us, as disempowerment & the wealth gap increases.
I know this will sound like lefty nonsense to some, but that's what I believe you are expected to think. The biggest threat to the current grossly inequitable distribution of wealth, would be if folk cared about each other & not just themselves. Today left is no longer left. Anything which threatens the corporate powers is disenfranchised before it can get too organised, & it is folk in our community who are used as the weapons to ensure this.

My thoughts are integrity will shine through if it is brought into play but it probably wont be a comfortable ride for all of us. The alternative would end up being far worse.

Cash is like our paper voting system. It will keep on working as a whole even if you lose parts of it.
Relying on a network, when it fails there is a big mess.
In 2016 the Balgowlah (basically Manly, Sydney) telephone exchange there was a fire.
'A power outage has affected the Balgowlah telephone exchange, cutting landline connections, ADSL, mobile and Foxtel services to surrounding areas.
A Telstra spokesman said power was expected to be restored to the exchange by 6pm and that landline connections would be restored after that.'
Nothing worked in the surrounding suburbs. Even 000 system had been burnt out & the police lost communication. A real mess!

Sometimes when travelling from A to B, I may not wish to wait around in a particular place, if an electrical problem stops me using my plastic card
Also, I simply refuse to use any self service checkout machine, as they are doing someone out of a job
I am also seriously considering, giving Kmart stores a miss, as I have to tell the bouncer on the self service checkout machine, that I wish to pay a human, and then have to wait for a checkout person to be called up, after I threaten to put the goods back on the shelf
I suppose that sometime in the future, it will become a cashless society
If it stops the druggies, then I will be all for it
I am off my soapbox now

ANZ is currently not allowing money in and out of Crypto exchanges. Just, no, you cannot move your money either way. Friend cannot even move hsi BTC to a clod storage wallet, just no, you cannot move your money around because we said so. ANZ says it's for your own good and we are saving you from being scammed. However, friend is trying to buy a house and wants his $100, 000 cash available to use in that purchase. The G'ovt introduced the New Payments Program in 2016 and their plan is to have a cashless system in place by end 2025 for Centrelink and all G'ovt agencies.

Apparently, more than a Billion in cash has very recently been removed from circulation. This was a Govt initiated action. This coincides with a successful trial of a Govt controlled and introduced Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) based on the Ripple Cryptocurrency. Again, apparantly, our most recently deleted PM and one time self appointed minister for everything, has had a hand in the effort to move Aust to a cashless society.
So, three things. A cashless society is much much closer than most think. Two, how the Interwebs unskilled and those withoput a digital footprint will get on is lacking a solution for general discussion. Third, how a reliable web and access with be provided to every nook and cranny in Aust.
Anyone remember the days of the PMG's Universal Guarentee that put the cost of a telephone installation the same no matter where in Australia the phone was to be installed?
I could post links to stuff on the likely introduction of CBDCs but don't want to risk being accused of spreading conspiracy stuff or trying to spreadpanic. If you do not have the Interweb skills to research them go immediately to panic mode.
