We purchased an older on site van and relocated it to another caravan park. It has never been insured in the 15+years we have owned it. The details of the make and model are not known and cannot be recovered. Any suggestions as to how I get insurance on it now? Everytime I attampt to, they ask for make and model. I need insurance on the van so I can sell it. Its still in great order but we have removed the tow bar.

Sorry, can't help, but I do wonder why you wish to insure the 'caravan' if you're selling it?
Perhaps you could refer to it as "home made" or some such, but to insure it as a caravan I suspect that it'll need to be registered?
Maybe you could insure it as a transportable accomodation shed like a Portacom?
Dunno, but good luck! Cheers

Thanks for your suggestions. It's requirement of the caravan park that the van must be insured to sell, its permanently on-site. It doesn't need to be registered. I could try the home made suggestion. Cheers

I'd try discussing the problem with the Caravan Park Management. I think that it is likely that they have encountered the situation before.
Good luck

It needs to be insured to sell, but otherwise it can remain uninsured? That doesn't make any sense. As mentioned, discuss it with the CP Management to find out what the real concern is. In the past I have found requests for various types of insurances are unwarranted, it is only being requested to 'tick a box' without any understanding of what is required.

While checking with CP management, i suggest asking what type of insurance is expected. Maybe, it could be Public Liability Insurance.

We previously owned an on site van, and were required to have insurance including 3rd party.
Seems only sensible for me.

Thanks all. It was never insured. I'm reluctant to tell manager in case they ask for us to remove van from site. I was hoping we could find a solution without telling them first. It is in their contract that the van must be insured (we've been lucky so far as it hasn't been an issue) and it has to be insured to be able to sell it onsite.

Try NRMA, they were the only Company that would insure a site van on my Oberon Shire NSW property - it was unregistered.
Note you can purchase blank VIN Plates on-line if you wish to make a chassis number, etc for your van. www.ebay.com.au/itm/303998053046%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1pwJ_JKvtSDSVwDQaq63HRQ26&campid=5338748025&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&toolid=10050&customid=7ad0b4d20153170fc109d1f119e1bed6&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&msclkid=7ad0b4d20153170fc109d1f119e1bed6
