Because I hope to be on the road when I turn 70 in June next year and having already had shingles twice and wasn't willing to risk getting it again; 2months ago I paid nearly $300 for the 1st of the new vaccine shots.
So I'm a little passed off, but I suppose at least I can get the 2nd one free

The waiting list for me to get my 2nd shingles vaccine for free is to long so I've paid another $500 for the 2nd one.
YOLO and I didn't fancy a 3rd bout of shingles

I had shingles several decades ago. I was bed ridden in extreme pain for 10 weeks. You do not want to get it.
Margaret and I had our first shot of the new vaccine on 1/11/23 and are booked for the second shot in a few weeks.
Cheers,
Peter

Had my first shot last week. Sore arm for 3 or 4 days and a rash on the arm for a week.

Have both had our two Shingrix jabs. Wife had a headache on the evening of the first - nothing else. I had nothing at all. On second jab we both had sore arms at the injection site for a couple of days, Nothing else.

Visited Dr yesterday, he told me it had been seven years since my last shingles vaccination, he sent me to the Nurse to have new part 1 of 2 shingrex. Painful? yes, worse than Tetanus shot, pain in arm through to left breast overnight, still feeling it.
It was free to me due to my age.
My wife had shingles once before, I hope I never get it.
Until now the old vaccine (Zostavax) has been available free for over 70's.
From 1st November 2023 a new vaccine (Shingrix) which is reported to be more effective than Zostavax, will be available free to anyone over 65 years.
It is two injections - 2 to 6 months apart, & is then good for the following 10 years.
I have a GP appointment next week & will request he gets in stock asap.
