Time to renew van insurance, called RACV who put our premium up by a huge amount and refused to negotiate a lower premium, so i called AAMI, and saved $100 dollars as well as the van agreed value an extra $2000 higher. I pays to shop around.

We have been long-standing clients of our QBE Insurance with all of our policies registered with them.
We needed to insure our van again and were told that they do not cover any vans over 15 years old. So rang NRMA and instantly was covered to an agreed value, but unable to gain a nil excess. Excess is only $200.
Plus NRMA staff answered the phone call within 10 seconds. Plus an Aussie / English-speaking member to help me. How's that for customer service? There was none of the usual preambles of " We are experiencing huge volume and all of our staff are busy answering calls etc etc etc. You know the drill.
Yes in some cases it does pay to shop around.

Think twice before you go with Club 4 X 4. What seemed like a promising
Relationship with lots of extras has turned purple.
I have two largish 4WD with them for first time. One had a small damage to
rear from an elderly lady running into it.
Two weeks to reply to online claim at my instigation.
Another week for the assessor to contact me. (Every claim no matter how small
has to be assessed. Quote was with 4x4 within 48 hours)
More delays while assessor does his thing and ok quote with 4x4.
I had to get onto 4x4 to again find out whats happening.
Evidently this quote checking by independent assessor is modus operandi of
the underwriters Hollard in South Africa.
Waiting to see how Wollies insurance performs. They are with Hollard also.

I had a total loss claim with Club 4X4 a year or so ago. Ok to deal with, but imo not really overly professional. I always had to call them to find out where my claim was at...it was a bit complex as my vehicle did have to be transported over 2,500 kms back to Brisbane for assessment which took some time.
I reported the incident on the 14th of September. In fact I had called them the day before but they were "too busy" to take my call and to leave my number...which I did...but called them back the next day as I received no call back.
I had to contact Club 4x4 at all times for any updates...not once did they call me. Anyway, in summary, Claim lodged on the 15th of September, Claim finalised on the 25th of October...
Would I use them again...don't know. I did move to another Insurer with the replacement vehicle. I don't expect to make any claims anyway...

I agree that it pays to shop around. CIL increased my premium by 63% at this year's renewal after a 10% increase the previous year despite no claims. I ended up with KT.
I didn't insure with C4x4 because they wanted a valuation for vans over a certain value, which I found hard to obtain. The reports here about their customer service aren't encouraging.
Finding an insurer for a more expensive van is not easy, in my experience.

We are looking at Insurance for a two year old campervan under $90,000 that we are looking to purchase. CIL is the most competitive quote but have said they won't insure it unless it has an immobiliser, tracking device or alarm fitted.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Immobiliser and alarm should be already in a two year old vehicle sold in Australia - tracking device not expensive if it isn't constantly monitored.
