I was just wondering as to how many types of taxes will we are hit with in our country. I am not referring to one's income or business tax. But other taxes or tax of another name.
For example. some of the could be taxes may be
No. 1 would be GST.
Fringe benefit tax
Capitol gain tax
Import duties.
Payroll Tax.
Property tax.
Stamp Duties.
And what about fuel tax, and let's not for get a couple of small tax examples.
Vehicle registration
Toll road fees.
Tariff on imports
Any wonder that we Aussies are struggling to live within our income.
There could be another big one on the horizon...
Inheritance Tax.
there are probably 50-plus other type of hidden taxes
I can feel the government man with his hands in my hip pocket every day of the week.
Just my views

We certainly do get slugged by duties and taxes. The inheritance tax will never be reintroduced as it was just political suicide. It was abolished in the early eighties in the states that had adopted it with the abolition being supported by both parties. As it is a State tax the Commonwealth can't introduce it and no State would be game.
I don't think anyone begrudges paying taxes and duties if the money raised goes towards worthwhile causes but what I loathe is using it to give the wealthy a further boost.

A very socialistic view to say the least. Whilst I agree many wealthy organisations/persons avoid tax, it is my firm belief that; most that earn high incomes are basically honest people working harder/smarter and more than carry their weight.
What I loathe is;
1. Corruption in Government and QANGO organisations and outright theft by those in power.
2. The apparent use of taxpayer funds to promote (many hairbrained) schemes with a sole intent of benefit to political causes or personal gain, and the wasteful expenditure on UNRWA terrorist organisations and such.
3. Uncontrolled immigration - there must be some limits to the type of persons (by age, race, religion, education) not humanitarian aid.

It was claimed when they implemented GST, it would replace all the other add on taxes. Yeah/Nah.
Someone said something about shifting the wealth of the country from poor to elites. So true. They are bleeding us dry.
What about all the fines.
I begrudge paying from my irreplaceable income for someone to do a sculpture that cost an outrageous amount. Yet the councils can't provide their core services of Roads, Rubbish and rates satisfactorily. They must be charging too much in rates to have some nobody put up those sculptures. How about some affordable housing instead.
And.. travelling with a caravan has become almost unaffordable, with cost of Caravan parks, Attractions (eg National Parks, Ayres rock) fuel. Free camps are slowly being replaced with Farm Stays (at a big cost in a lot of places). and of course, the issue of the state of some of the roads that are downright dangerous.

Another new fee we are encountering lately would be Surcharges on card use. Guess that might encourage people to use cash.

I am sure we all know someone who could easily get a job if the free handouts stopped. There will always be people who need it, but at present it is too easy to live a life on welfare.

What a lot of people forget is that the more wealth you have, the more you must rely on the government to protect your wealth - this come with a cost....taxes.

Ok guys & gals,
I introduced this thread with the view that you all could add to my list of TAXES. No matter what ""way shape or form"" the taxes may seem to be.
For example, the Toll fee is a tax no matter how one looks at it.
I never expected the negative feedback we are getting.
Ok, I did mention the following.
I can feel the government man with his hands in my hip pocket every day of the week.
If one needs a copy of one's birth certificate or marriage license there is a government fee ( that is to me another type of TAX.'
Jesus the list can go on and on and on.
Cheers

Aside from income tax, all other imposts are designed to shift the revenue burden to the lower income groups. We should have only one tax, namely income tax, because it is the only one, in principle, which reflects a person's capacity to pay.

The problem with that is the "under the table" cash economy is huge. How often will a tradie offer the job with "less for cash". Basing all tax on income would make the incentive to hide income that mucher greater. So the honest person suffers.
If it was more based on consumption (e.g. higher GST, lower income tax) then those who have the wealth to spend a lot pay more. Someone who is frugal pays less. So those with reasonable incomes but struggle to pay mortgages can choose frugality, and therefore pay less tax. Of course there would need to be offsets for those with lower incomes.
A benefit of this is to put a dent in the rampant consumerism, and the exodus of money to China.

Being in business pre and post GST in the computer Industry, the wholesale sales tax was a sh1t show, it ranged from 0.5% to 37.5%, with GST it became 10% on everything.
The under the table cash jobs became the realm of labor input without materials, for a sole trader, if you employ staff cash jobs are not in your best interest.
Compare the pair, say you were having a party with champers you pay $10 a bottle of which 99cents is GST, Kerry Packer would buy champers at $100 a bottle of which $9 was GST, therefore Kerry paid more GST than you, but Kerry's accountant would deem the party as a business function and would claim the GST back in the next BAS period.

An office party can becalled a training session, over 8 hour or more, providing refreshments Uncle Kerry could have ordered 6 cases of Bolinger, 2 were uncorked and 4 went home in the Roller.
Remember companies are required to spend X amount on training, A company I worked for we flew to Perth each year for corporate get together Stay at Burswood Holiday Inn, have a full day seminar and then an Awards night, then fly back home the next day to Adelaide. Usually with a hangover.

with income/business tax there will always be lurks and perks for people in the know, with GST the more you earn the more you spend the more tax you pay if you don't spend it someone else will use it an they will pay GST unless you hide it under the bed!
