Lightning Ridge to the Coast (Maybe via Amidale) - recommendations please!

Thanks to Grey Nomad's brains trust, I now have our road trip route sorted to Lightning Ridge.
We'd now like to plan a route back to the coast before heading back to Sydney.
We had a brief stay in Armidale last year and would like to go back and follow the Waterfall Way to the Coast. I'm also thinking that Coonabarabran might also be a good stop for a night of star-gazing.
Any other suggestions for an interesting/scenic route from LH to Armidale? It doesn't have to be a straight line as we're happy to take a few days to get to Armidale and stopover at some interesting spots.
If you had 4-5 days to get from LH to Coffs Harbour, what would be your 'not-to-be-missed' stops? (And we're driving a sedan so sealed roads only, please).
Thanks!!!

LR to Coonabarabran then Gunnedah to Tamworth and on to Armidale.
Really great Asian restaurant in the Coonabarabran Bowling Club. Great locals to have a chat with too.

I second the emotion with the Coona Chinese at the club.
Been a while since there but has a good reputation.

Just a few suggestions to think about on your road trip Shorty.
When in Broken Hill make sure you visit the Sulphide Street Railway museum, Palace Hotel and a trip to Silverton. the first two are right in town and the last one a trip of about 20km on a sealed road. A really great place to eat and have an ale is the Musicians Club, right in town too.
On the way out, Little Topar Hotel is about half way between BH and Wilcannia and has great meals and coffee with really friendly staff. Have a stop in Wilcannia. Don't listen to the crowd, it is perfectly safe and the locals are really friendly. When you are in Wilcannia, just before the Darling River bridge, turn right down the main street. There is a little cafe run by the local community that has great toasties and drinks. Really friendly people and always up for a yarn about the local history.
Between Wilcannia and Cobar, about a third of the way, there is Emmdale Roadhouse. There is fuel but more importantly they make the best hamburgers and steak sandwiches in the whole of Australia.
In Cobar there are plenty of places to eat with the local RSL being one of them.
Enjoy your trip.

Last time I was there, there was a great Asian restaurant in the Bowls (I think) Club. A low cost van parking section too.

It has been more than a couple of years, but I could vouch for the Musicians Club in Broken Hill, if you around that way. There is an interesting light fitting made for several saxophones in the entrance area, too
