Fords new F150 Lightning that Ford can't sell in the US has arrived down under with a base model sticker price of 230,000 buckeroos. The 500km long range version will set you back 250,000, and fully optioned 280,000. It will be sold in Australia NOT by Ford dealerships but by a company called AusEV, how weird is that?

In the United States, Ford F-150 Lightning deliveries totaled 11,905 units in Q4 2023, an increase of about 74 percent compared to 6,857 units sold in Q4 2022. During the complete 2023 calendar year, F-150 Lightning sales increased about 55 percent to 24,165 units.

Now come on GN's. Us Boomers can all afford one of these vehicles (according to the Fearless Leader and his side kick "B.O.B.").
And what better vehicle could you get to tow the den around Oz.
The biggest drawback, that I can only see, is that there are no EV charging stations suitable for caravanners on the move.

Thats why the Lightening has a large tray, you can fit a big diesel generator into it. But that then poses the problem of generators in campsites.
Solution: Run the generator while driving.

Thieving baskets the Lightning in US is USD $57000 to $97000 which currently equates to AUD $87.000 to $146,000. Add $7,000 for shipment.
They are not missing the Me Me Me generation are they? With price tags of $230,000 to $280,000.

Maybe you missed the conversion from LHD to RHD by a third party and the cost of Australian compliance for how many vehicles?

Good luck thinking you can tow the average size GN teepee on the big lap.
Tow tests in the States have shown that it's range on relatively flat level ground with 2800kgs on the back was 130km.
That would not get you from one Roadhouse to the next in at least three places on the Nullabor assuming that all roadhouses have a charger.
And the Nullabor is not really remote these days.
The long range version has a 130kw/hr battery so with the cip fat powered chargers on the Nullabor it will take about 2.5hrs to charger the thing.

MGUY Australia reports on Ford E unit sales for the first quarter of 2024. Ford's release of first quarter figures for EV sales are as follows.
Costs of US $132,000 LOSS per 10,000 new EV vehicles sold in the first quarter (1.3 Billion in total) They expect losses in their EV division to reach 5 BILLION for the entire period to end 2024.
Sales of the new Ford E Transit commercial van in Australia for the first quarter is 15, no zeros after that.
The EV catastrophe that cost the Hertz CEO his job has so far cost Hertz 400,000,000 and is still climbing as they offload 30,000 Tesla EV cars right now.

The problem of the Teslas and Hertz is an accounting one.
New Teslas are lots cheaper that when Hertz bought them which means the depreciation was massive.

Ford's EV problems are self inflicted.
They were late in the game and have released "old" vehicles that have been "modified" to electric.
Those companies that are successful have developed new vehicles for EVs.
Electric vehicle owners should ONLY be allowed to charge their cars using solar and wind power, otherwise it's just pretend.

Pretend what?
Even charged from grid power, EVs are substantially less polluting than ICE vehicles.
They are even less polluting if they use power from diesel generators.

The claim that Ford just electrified old vehicles is incorrect.
The F150 Lightening may look very similar to the ICE F150 but it was an entirely new vehicle with a completely different chassis to the ICE version.
Ford have deliberately made all their Ute range look similar. It is a marketing thing.
Even built in a separate plant to the ICE trucks.
What is killing it is the fact that it cannot do what the ICE versions can and intensely cold weather kills the batteries, so many North Americans just are not interested like many Australians.
The technology just isn't there yet for many peoples needs despite boofhead Bowen's claims to the contrary.

Not that I am aware of.
It is interesting though. There are conversion kits for classic cars popping up, like one for Minis available in the UK.
