Hi All
Just wondering if anyone is having issues with wiki camps crashing. Checked for updates etc. What is everyone using if not wiki camps?

Wikicamps has had issues since G'day parks took it over then in mid 2022 they did a "necessary" and urgently needed major update.and they have not been able to get it to work properly since despite many many more updates .
Wikicamps is a sinking ship and the rats are deserting.

I have had that issue, but found deleting from my iPad and then reloading has fixed the problem.
May be worth trying.

I haven't done the updates since the first troublesome one, so it still works for me. But I havent been there today so we will see.

I found that older phones, tablets and computers do not have the capability of running the newer versions of Wikicamps. If you are using a device more than a couple of years old you may find problems getting Wikicamps to work properly.
I had problems until I replaced my phone and computer last year. My tablet however is now about 5 years old and rarely gets Wikicamps to work successfully.
Are you due for a device upgrade?

Hi All
Had deleted then reinstalled on iPhone and ipad. Worked okay for a while. Just changed over to new android phone and tablet. Has crashed and been reinstalled twice in the last 4 months. Maybe it's just because it's school holidays and I'm trying at busy times. Has come good now. Also why are there ads in this paid version now. Just curious.
Thanks for the advice everyone.

I have no problems other than the abominably slow server that they use. The WorldWideWait is back!!!
I often leave, have a drink and come back after some minutes. When the initial opening is achieved, the site selection, the details/comments or fees etc are completed one after the other you can be 6-8 minutes total to get much in the way of info.
I love the site and have been a user for about 20 years, but it is so bad now that I only use it occasionally.
Some of the settings in the "Site Filters" section mean what they dont (?) and its annoying that toilets and water points have the same symbol.
And so many Reviews and Pics cannot be scored - the wheel just either goes round and round
or a note comes up that you cannot score this (whatever).
Wheels coming off the wagon!!

My Android and Windows versions show different symbols.
There is a separate one for showers.
As for speed, it is not snappy like the old version but I have no problem with it. It takes 5-6 seconds to load first time (just timed it), then less than a second for whatever I want to look at it.
You can download content for your state to make it faster, but I just checked and it is still plenty fast enough. Sites with a lot of photos can take longer but still not bad.
I suggest you may need to address what is wrong with your device(s) or the installation. Have you checked your available storage space and memory? Perhaps clear your cache, uninstall and reinstall.

If you are waiting minutes to access WikiCamps then the problem must be on your end, a couple of seconds at most. You need to update the App or your devices.

A year or so ago I paid my initial subscription to Wikicamps.
It worked OK for the first visit or two then I had multiple issues with it and just gave up in frustration.
I reckon it is pointless having an online presence if the platform isn't stable in ANY way.
To my mind the Wikicamps site takeover is a little like Reflections granted the running of the NSW state owned parks.
A VERY big mistake.
I find I can now research a planned trip myself very well - on that, I am planning to attend the NSW Open Golf at Murray Downs in mid November where Cam Smith has announced he is having a hit. As far as research goes, does anyone have any idea of reasonable camping/caravan park accommodation in the vicinity of Swan Hill, in particular Pental Island Holiday park situated right on the Murray River please ???

Everyone had trouble with WikiCamps after they tried to fix everything at once and then their fixes that also failed, but everything works well now if your devices are up to date and you are on the latest versions.
So anyone who is a Conspiracy Theorist or a Sovereign Citizen is highly likely to have troubles as it goes with the Paranoid Personality Disorder that they are carrying around.
I only use it occasionally these days and not interested in the dick swinging of the Forum participants who just love belittling new members for not knowing the ins & outs of the app.

When was the last time that you were syncing WikiCamps sites to enable viewing reviews, photos and fees. Was the syncing immediate or did it take some time?

Yes Dicko as soon as I click reviews or photos it's immediate, so if your setup isn't it's either lack of update app or not updating device or your actual internet speed. Blackstump I did hold back a bit had to edit as I was typing otherwise there may have been to much truth in it. ;)

You have no idea what you are talking about.
Clearly you are using Wiki Camps in its on-line mode, try downloading all the states (that took me one week) and then running in that mode and you will discover the concept of patience.
Wiki Camps is very badly broken and your foolishness about buying a new phone and the like is simply wrong.

I don't know what is wrong in your case but I just checked the online/offline modes. The way I have been using it is in the online mode. I turned off data and wifi on my phone. Closed the app and reopened it.
I had not downloaded any content so this was a good test. The filters worked as expected. Clicking on a specific site the displayed image was a generic grey one, not for the actual site. The details showing contacts, available features were all there. All displayed instantly. But no reviews or photos. A message says to go online for that. For me, working perfectly as expected.
Then I went to the Wikipedia settings and could see the offline content was divided into two separate files for East and West ... about 460MB in total. I downloaded the larger one for East, covering the whole east coast. That took 82 seconds.
I must admit I could not see any difference after downloading the offline content. When offline there were still no reviews or photos. With that accepted shortcoming it worked fine.
So how about those having problems advise what they have done to fix it. I can think of suggestions:
1. Check that you have sufficient memory and storage while Wikicamps is running
2. In the phone settings under Apps, pick Wikicamps and clear the cache and storage, then ....
3. Uninstall and reninstall before trying it.
4. Failing that, what has Wikicamps support said?
Let us know the results of doing those steps.

Maybe it's because all my stuff is Mac - a leftover preference from a couple of ad. agencies that I owned.
However, my son is a Programmer in a partnership doing international work for banks, taxi charges,
industrial diagnostic equipment and so-on.
He keeps my phone and other stuff not only up to date but with supplementary stuff that he writes.
So I can only surmise that the program is still beta for Mac.

That sounds like your answer. MacOS is not supported.
Maybe your son has got it working on an iOS or Android emulator on the Mac. Not a good solution without having the technical skills to support that as you seem to be experiencing.

Download the Maps and download the Site Content and when all is Synced you will have everything running at speed.
It will take several days to download and update all states Maps and Site Content, which is a nuisance in itself, but once it is all Synced and up to date WikiCamps will fly.
I don't understand why the downloads would take so long as I have fast PC & Laptop and fastest NBN connection. Perhaps WikiCamps servers are slow. Don't know?
If anyone does know the reason (not assume) then please post here.

I think I have worked out why people say it is really slow downloading offline content. I had previously downloaded maps and that was fine. But today I downloaded offline content for NSW.
After selecting NSW and clicking "Sync now" it was dawdling along, and based on progress I calculated it was going to take 20-30 minutes. I have only 1 bar of reception at home so a slow speed is no surprise to me. There is also an option to wait for wifi which I deselected. That may be critical.
I put the phone down and came back an hour later but discovered it was stalled at about 20%. Needed to press Sync now again to get it going again. Then I noticed the text that said "Keep this page open while downloading content". You really need to do that otherwise it stops. While the page is open and on screen it continued and completed. Tested offline and it worked fine. No photos.
If you still have problems I suggest going back to the 4 steps I posted a few days ago. I would suggest to only download the offline content for the state(s) you need because it takes a lot of storage space.
