I have just received a call from the caravan shop, they have just got back from weighing my caravan. Build brief was 2100-2150Kg.................it has come in at 2550Kg. My car has a tow capacity of 2500KG so I'm overweight before anything goes in. I'm absolutely devastated.
I think I might have to go and drown my sorrows tonight.

Are you going to buy a new tug??
It is close to the limit if it is 2150kg when it is empty anyway.
What sort of weight do you anticipate would be involved in the gear you are putting in to it??
Don't forget the weight of the water in the tank!! They usually weigh these things empty.
In my opinion.........I know my opinion is not worth Sh*t .....but you would be too close to the limit anyway!!

Can't afford to replace tug and van

200Kg

2 water tanks @ 95L, only travel with 1 full 95Kg

Travelled for 6.5 months earlier this year using same weight restrictions, due to van limits on this occassion.

Gary & Kerry, What goinsoon says makes a lot of sense, if you do have the specifications in writing then you could force them to build you another van to those specs but that will not get you away on your planned date.
As Dave0 said we feel for you both and only hope it all works out in the end.
Best Regards to you both.

I know the quote on the bottom of my answer is tongue in cheek.
Seriously compensation may be in order if you have an agreement in writing for the supply of the van and the specifications agreed on.
It may be worth a chat to your friendly solicitor
cheers and good luck Brian

Read your post and felt sick in the stomach. We are in a similar situation, as far as, can only update one but limited with weight Territory can tow. We'd all better put in and buy a Tattslotto ticket.

I reckon you've got hold of the wrong bloke Brian, I think you mean Garry & Kerry.
And I must say your quote, as far as I am concerned is spot on, I'd like to castrate the buggers also, Garry & Kerry are very nice people and to have this happen to them must be soul destroying.

Geez Gary, thats 20% out. Must be some sort of recourse with the builder, surely? Have they offered any explanation, or just waiting to see what you do.
As this was only a phone call have they confused with the tare weight and g.v.m.?

Thank you all for your thoughts. After a very stressful and sleepless night we decided to go and look for a car capable of towing the van. it seems that there are really only 3 choices when needing to tow a van that size, F250, cruiser and land rover. The first 2 were way outside what I could afford so a Disco2 was our best option. So subject to an inspection on tuesday I have joined DD as a Disco 2 owner. I had a mate (not DD) who has owned 4 disco's in the past come out and helped with selection.
So fingers crossed we are back on track for a febuary departure.
PS 1 hyundai terracan for sale
PSS thanks DD for your advice.

I'm glad you've found a solution to the issue, maybe not the one you intended but I think that the one that gives you the least stress is the correct one. Life's too short to do otherwise and now you get on with some serious grey-nomadding. Best wishes in your travels, Jim
