Are the fuel stops at reasonable distances from each other? And what do you reckon the distances between them would be.
Are the roads/tracks between the Eyre Highway and the Bight sufficiently signposted? Would not like to take a track thinking I'm going to view the whales and end up in some farmers back paddock.

There are plenty of petrol stops with about 200-300kms in between and any points of interest are signed posted.
I think you would have trouble geting lost. I traveled it on my own without fear or trepidation

Hi Rosco - have made quite a few crossings the last in Jan this year - longest distance b/w servos would be 400k's but usually about 200k's so no real issues re fuel availability - price varies. The signage is good so little chance of getting lost. Some of the free camps on the 'Bight' have been closed due to errosion but others quite accessible with good space and turning options. Lots of safe free camping (some with drop-toilets) but if you want a campfire wood is scarce in the near vacinity to free camps so pick up firewood as you see it (take an axe). Ensure you have enough water to see you across and you should have a great time and meet lots of like-minded travellers who will be able offer up to date advice re fuel prices Cheers Jenny PS watch out for wild dog baits if you have a dog

Rosco, It's fabulous trip if you want it to be, but boring if you eprieciate what it offers. The road is terrific and would mantch any 2 lane highway in the country. Fuel stops are frequent, 200 - 250Km and tracks to the bight are generally well graded and no chance of getting lost. For some of the drive you can even see the water from the road. Have alook at the museum at the Beladonia Roadhouse and at Eucla. While in Eucla visit the Old Telegraph Station which is now almost covered by the desert sands. ****lebiddi Cave is another great side trip, but the track was pretty rough when we went in a few years back. You will love it. I've done it solo 4 times and camped at some good spots. I doubt whether there is 400km between fuel stops ???...lucky to be 200km. Some fuel stops are more expensive than others and can be up to 20c difference in prices per litre so ask fellow travelers before heading off.
Phone service is pretty slack, but plenty of traffic if you get any issues and the road is wide with plenty of room and pretty quiet at night, depending on which night as sometimes the highway is very busy and other times very quiet.
Go to the head of the Bite and view the Whales...10km off the highway and $5 to get in.
I wouldn't stop at Nundroo overnight as the place is a pig sty, but others are fairly good if you wish a van park
And as stated above, you WILL NOT get lost

Be aware that, although some maps and guides show a roadhouse at Yalata, this has actually been closed for a few years.

A tip that has not been mentioned here is:
if you have medical problems and you have no phone coverage and you are near an aboriginal area ignore the no entry signs and go in and ask for help, most of them have a clinic, I had to use the one at Yalata early this year, went to the Yalata police station and they took us around to the clinic, saved us a drive of 240 klms to Ceduna, turns out we would not have made it anyway as my system was closing down, after entering the clinic the nurse said I would have been a gonna driving all that way back, she called the RFDS and we were air lifted out to Port Augusta.
Now in regards to the Nulla Nymph here's a pic of the one we saw.
And now with some of her friends playing golf.

Also, ask oncoming travellers (by two way radio or at rest area's) about where to and not to buy fuel because differences can be huge. But keep an eye on the fuel gauge of course. We did the Nullarbor three times and did not think it was something very special. Not much different from going North from Port Augusta. Did not buy the 'I crossed the Nullarbor sticker'. We loved the many possibilities to just pull off the road and camp. And the viewing points are well signposted.

Thanks also willem, and great photo too. Whilst I am careful about fuel, I am aware that shipping costs paid by outback servos to get their fuel are passed onto the consumer. I dont care too much about paying a few extra dollars. I've heard of travellers filling up jerry cans and bypassing outback servos. It does concern me that if travellers continue to do this it would place pressure on the servo to be able to remain open. That, in turn would restrict travellers who dont have, and are not able to carry their own jerry cans, for whatever reason, and hence may not travel the outback fearing they would run out of fuel.
One other thing, sorry to those who contribute to my posts and feel that they are not receiving acknowledgement. Your contributions are much appreciated, even those that criticize my spelling. My job means that from 8.30am to 5.30pm, and more often than not 8am to well after 6pm, I am staring at a computer screen. I pop into the forum every now and then for a break, sometimes I have time to contribute, mostly I have a quick glance through the posts that may interest me and ignore the others. Consequently when I get home the last thing I want to do is turn the laptop on. Same for weekends. When you work in an office the weekend is for outdoors.
Bring on the holidays....

Some people buy muzzles for their dogs for roadside stops etc to help prevent them eating any baits. I believe they are dropped by birds in roadside areas etc and includes bird vomit from the baits as well.
Now that Wombat........I'll bet he had to be airlifted out from Yalata because of all the excitement like Gubby said.......hmmmm......think I will go and buy some clubs too (and a good camera)!
