What is the go with shipping containers, say if you want to buy a used one for storing stuff at home or if you want to move etc.
If getting moved, do some company's supply these for your stuff for removal or later storage?
I saw a house near me today with one out the front, I think they may be moving?
Thanks

Hi Vic,
You can purchase a container.
We purchased a forty footer ($3,000) delivered. They make good storage containers (no pun) they are weather proof and vermin proof.
The only reason we picked a forty footer is that as well as storing our furniture, etc. we also packed in a vintage car for five years.
If I where to buy one again I would pick a twenty footer. These can easily be resold to tradies for on-site storage.
If you are going to get one, make sure you inspect it before agreeing to purchase or hire.
Some are knocked about a bit and DO NOT get one with any rust.
Cheers
Dusty

Just Google shipping containers for sale Vic, heaps about.. Hey a 20' container converted to an accommodation unit on a flat bed truck, that'd work.

We love our container, it cost about $3000 and is worth every penny.
It is on our acerage out chinchilla way, it has a beautiful interior, teak wooden floor (ply), eventually it will be converted into a room off our kitset shed, oh the plans, you would not regret buying one, as they hold their value very well.

Hi Vic - there are containers and containers - we purchased a new 20 footer for $3200 delivered and pick-up and transport to rail head (Perth)- went for a new one as our 'life' is stored in it and was very difficult to get insurance for goods stored in it if its not stored on your property. We went looking at them during a rainy spell and was surprising how many in "good codition" actually had water leaks cheers Jenny

Thanks for the feedback and advice, no I haven't googled them yet, thought I'd ask those who have them which is best, all good stuff !
I'll have a google and see what's on offer, I'm not in the market at the moment just wondering about them.....back of a truck......hmmmm........have to think about that one....
One of the places up north (Whim Creek Pub) have a couple they use to jump into when a cyclone is coming their way, more secure than the pub etc.

G'day Vic,
We bought a 40' container last year to store our household gear while daughter and family are in the house, and we can do some travelling. I sat it on concrete footings at either either, fitted ventilators and put a roof on top. I think it costs us about 3 grand, but we figure it's worth it.
When/if we finish travelling, I'll fit it out as a workshop (and maybe put a small bar down one end !!!)

No worries, where did you store yours with rellies or with a storage company?
Re the bar......has to be put so the wives don't have to do too much walking to get you another beer when you want one......or is this stricly a "mens shed"?

My sister and b-i-l hired a 40ft container when they were moving. It was left out the front for them to fill, and then taken away for storage while they're house was being built. Then they delivered it when S&B were ready to move in.
Also Daughter and s-i-l bought one as an extra storage facility. He had too much c#*p to fit it all in the shed. They rent, so it can be taken with them if they have to move.

That reminds me of when I was in the navy.
My first trip overseas (Philipinnes) a couple of mates and I was walking down the street of this little town, when a young "lady" leaned out of a window (not wearing much) and asked "You like, nice hot women and nice cold beer?
We, being very naive lads from Adelaide, high tailed it out of there quick smart.
Had the last laugh when a couple of sailors took them up on their offer.(Not so naive, after all.)

I've seen some used as cyclone shelters in Broome area. They chain it to a concrete slab, set it up to live in for a couple of days, or longer. The residents at the Whim Creek Pub/Roadhouse survived a TC which hit them head on by sheltering in the container. Maybe we could find 101 uses for containers other than shipping containers.

No worries Gary, we will need some serving wenches for the bar though, maybe Beth will volunteer living so close
Met a nasty Ranger bloke from Eacham Shire at a rest stop, he was bad news, I was ok but he got stuck into some others for parking overnight, even though the Qld Main Roads map said you could.
I heard on the radio later that some tourist beat him up, not suprised with his bombastic nature.
