As we travelled between Cootamundra and Young, we came across the little locality of 'Wombat' - no kidding - however the Olympic Highway bypasses it, and as we were bopping along to Gene Pitney, didn't see any signs, so no opportunity to take a photo.

He's got a State Park in Victoria too, I have been there, I reckon that must have been where he was born. He also has a family crest, I see it on the side of the road all the time.

As a gardener who faught a losing battle with a couple of wombats in the Bega valley.... he was probably just digging his hole in an inconvenient spot. But in so doing, he opened holes in the fence which allowed sheep or wallabies or whatever in to eat the geraniums. Its a long and difficult job trying to argue with wombats, dont try, just appreciate them for the "cute" animals that they are. Thankfully our Wombat doesnt have such bad habits...do you Wommy?.
