.. it sounds very much like the security of the server might have been breached by outside influences .. or you have yourself had some trojan or malware affect your system ..

 I do have ongoing concerns myself ..

I'm getting 100s e-mails aday from this site. noreply@activeboard.com that is the address they are coming from. Correct me if i"m wrong it comes from here. I have looked in my user details but can not fined how to stop them.

Go into advanced editor when making a comment and make sure the "Email me whenever there is a new post to this topic" is NOT TICKED otherwise you will get the emails all the time.

 check in your reply window, if you have ticked the box [ email me when ever there is a new post to this topic ] . Its just above the box for [attach image]

I managed to do this a while back when I attached a image & you get a email every time some one replies.

Everything is ticked and unticked. Nicholstones they come from here the Grey Nomads.

Have you sent Cindy a PM Popeye ?  She might know how to stop them.

Just had a look in  settings , check this ,Go to user details, settings, email digest of new topics. There are  none,daily, weekly monthly etc.maybe this has been changed.

I have change my e-mail address. Now lets see what happends

.. one of my ongoing concerns is that I still have no "subscribe" facility .. and not all notifications come through (in time) .. but usually before 4 hrs is up !!

Maybe the "Gremlin" affects your computer in a different manner ..

Also check ABB and the ADF site you are on to see if some are coming from them if they use the same site provider.

Hope your issues are resolved soon.

I used to subscribe to a thread if I wished to stay familiar with the topic .. and chose to be notified when a new entry was made to it ..

I'm now only able to receive notifications from a thread I've initiated .. but more often than not the notifications simply arrive up to 4 hrs late ..

If entering any other thread just to read them I have no "sunscribe" facility available if I wished to be notified of them also ..

Down the bottom of where I'm writing now is the word subscribe, bottom r/h corner. I clicked on it and went away for 20 minutes or so. Then I checked in my hotmail. I had 11 notifications of new posts in all threads. Not just one in particular.

Like you Jonathan I do not have a subscribe button for just one particular thread. I have a feeling there used to be one beside the reply and quote buttons or somewhere near it.

 I clicked that box a few (late) nights ago & got mountains of emails  .. from every post to the general box.

I then clicked the 'unsubscribe' link in one of the messages (as previously suggested) & that fixed it.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with emails.  It’s possible that you have accidentally subscribed to a few topics or even to the forum itself.  To check what topics you are subscribed to, once you have signed in, click on your own username and then have a look at the links on the lefthand side of the page.  Under the ‘Posts’ heading, the ‘subscriptions’ link is the third option down.  Click that, and you will be taken to a page which shows all the topics or forums you are currently subscribed to.  You will be provided with the option to ‘unsubscribe’ to these topics or forums on that page.  Click that link and hopefully you will stop receiving emails.  Please let me know if this doesn’t work.  I know that our forum hosts have been doing a few upgrades to the system and this has resulted in some quirky things happening which may need to be resolved from their end.

 Duh......sorry Jon, old timers disease, that was meant for Popeye !!!   ABB is the Aussie Baby Boomers forum and the ADF site (Australian Defence Force unofficial) is the Tri Service site I think Popeye belongs to.....I know he had some GN emails, I just wondered if he was receiving any from these others but I can't recall what site provider they use.

You're right Pam, it's right down at the very bottom of this page, on the right hand side.

Joanthan, you can also subscribe when you reply to a comment, by ticking... 'email me whenever there is a new post to this topic'...just below the reply box.

I'm not sure why the 'subscribe' button is not available to you.  I've sent you a PM.

I'm unsubscribe. Since i changed my e-mail address it has stopped. The full on e-mails only started two days ago out of the blue. I ticked & unticked boxes to no avail. Till I changed my e-mail address. Thanks for all your advice.
