No need to be envious unless you want to enjoy having you van in for repairs about 4 or is it more times in less than 1 year. Last one is a case of pulling teh side off and some internal lining for water dammage dues to a poor roof seal.
Seems every time so far each trip I plan to get going on has some hiccup and it comes to a grinding halt.

Hi Fran. I loved reading ur post. I'm 46, last year bought first caravan, threw the dogs in the car and went off on an exploratory journey. 4 months and 16,000kms later I returned Reluctantly. I wish I had known of this forum then. But I met lots of wonderful people and loved the life.
i am now seriously considering selling up and going walkabout for an indefinite time. if. I do do it, (I'm about 80% likely to) won't be for another 6months, but I will be crossing my fingers that I meet like minded solo's on the way.
i figure I have nothing to lose and a lot more to gain
cheers,
Sally

Me too thinking (going to!, just working on the courage thing) sell up and have faith. Ok, I may be younger than you, but I know one thing. 16 years ago I lost my beautiful fiancé to a motorbike accident. He likely assumed he would make 40, he didn't. Now, when I'm really stuck at a cross road in life, I think of him and think.... "Live in the moment girl" cos I may not be here next year!
Lifes for living and I want to live each day enjoying it and going to new places and meeting new folk. I'm not achieving that right now, so what the hell, I may as well give it a go ;)

Of course, I traveled for 2 years in my mid 50's.
Play it safe, don't go down off-beaten tracks, and find overnight accommodation well before it gets dark.
Good Luck

thanks for the welcome and for sharing your many ideas in general .
I am setting out in February and would love to hear from anyone who might be solo in Tassie around February onwards. I leave in mid February I have been there many times and always wonder over such a small state, with great folks that are so down to earth, and helpful, that I am really looking forward to doing it all over again..
This time for the first time, im taking my little dog, so it should be even better, than my other trips, with her company... happy travelling

Welcome Lizz and Gypsydreamer. As you can see this particular thread hadn't been used for 12 months.
Perhaps start your own thread either here in solo or maybe one of the other great sections.
Members are more likely to see and reply there.

Hi, my name is Fran, I have been dreaming of this day for a few months now, reading all the advice, pics etc.., I'm in the process of purchasing a Motorhome, rang RACV for an inspection was advised they don't do Motorhomes, my delima is I'm mechanically challenged, can someone advise me who to contact that does do inspections? The motorhome is in Melbourne.

Hi Nomads,
I recently undertook a solo motorbike trip from Qld to W.A. and return. I free camped and where I couldn't find a suitable spot I would ask the local publican or roadhouse if he/she could recommend a place for me to pitch my tiny tent. The hospitality I encountered was superb. I didn't feel threatened at any time. I loved my trip and look forward to getting out again to continue my dream. I know most of you on here have motorised rigs and you are not "tent camping". However you choose to see our country, travelling alone or in company I would highly recommend it. I was really worried about certain sections of my trip but it was needless worry in the end. I found the trip a breeze. Having a reliable vehicle is paramount. Having said that, if per chance you do break down, one will encounter a fellow traveller without waiting too long. Joining your RAC is a good move. I chose the highest cover for peace of mind. My advice is to pick your travelling seasons well and don't wait too long. Enjoy your mobility while we are able. It is great fun and you will meet wonderful people, like the ones on this forum. Cheers

I have no idea where I will go yet I will get in my bus and just drive which ever way feels good. I am leaving from the tablelands area aprox 19th or 20th august. Love meeting people, I have a little aged dog companion. Love to chat with anyone for inspirational ideas. Bev
