Sorry to hear your news Marj, but I really do wish you would just make one phone call to the ACCC 1300 302 502 and seek their advice, I am sure the car yard can be held responsable to some degree, they have sold an item that will not do what you intended it to do, there is no stress in making that call, they are there to help, do not exagerate or make any demands just ask their advice, you maybe very surprised at the outcome.

The mention of the speedo reading vs what the motor has really done is a worry Marj. If you can prove there's been some tampering, you may have an issue to raise with the ACCC. You bought the vehicle in good faith, paid money in good faith, someone took advantage of your innocence, and you're the loser. That's not nice. In fact it's crooked. A simple chat on the phone will give you a clear picture of where you stand. Please give it a try. It's in your best interest.

After what I've found out today I am thinking you may be right wombat. Perhaps I should ring them tomorrow and ask their advice. Just to get my head around it all and see what they say.

I'm starting another thread "Save Myrtle the Turtle", no need to make the amount donated public, but suggest those who do so pm Marg (she will know who they are) and ask for her bank account details for a direct donation, or Marg can open a special account to put it in and let us know. I'm in too. Even if we don't get enough for a new or reconditioned engine, at least it will help Marg with a holiday in Myrtle.
Like the others say Marg, I am devastated by the news too, my hope were a lot higher than the outcome. I hate people who take advantage of others and they must have known.
Suggest you get that heavy oil and have a trip, start small for starters, 60,000 kms will give you at leat three years of travel.
Chin up girl!

Marj I am so sorry to hear that news but not really surprised,I told you everyone thinks that car salesman and the mechanic are a<holes pardon my french but thats what they are. I have had dealings with accc and they are very helpful, and these rip off merchants need to be accountable, It will not cost anything to try, you may even get something back, best of luck but give it a try. Marj, I am very pleased to see you are coming round, if the ACCC advises that you can do something through them why not suggest that a new or replacement enigine would be all you require, if that is what you want, or masybe you would like your money refunded.
PLEASE make that call tomorrow, don't leave it too long. I wish you well.

Marj, there comes a time in all our lives, when we have to learn to accept the help of
others. I used to be the same as you. Too Independant for your own good.
Really, we're all being a little bit selfish,[even those who don't recognise the fact yet]
because we're all going to feel wonderful when we've got you back on the Road again.
One way or another, you're going to be helped.
Cheers,

Hi Marg Sorry to hear about your dilemma Now to put this into perspective. We are newbies and have received a lot of invaluable information from other grey nomads who live for the lifestyle You have had a lot of posts through this site and have probably contributed a lot to all of us by way of advice and general information! Most of the people you have touched can afford $50 some more some less If we can get the numbers and the name of a trustworthy mechanic you should be on the road again fairly quickly Its not charity its about people realising one persons contribution to a group and helping when its needed please give let me know how I can make donation and hopefully one day we will meet up and laugh about the problems you have now Peter rosemary and Ollie the retreiver (currently at lake elphinstone)

Its a 3y , or so I am led to believe. Perhaps Marg, or the mechanic can tell us. They are a common motor. Its nice to see a bit of community action.Lets cut the corner , and do it ourselves.Surely there is Gns with the skills. The moneys not the problem-I would enjoy just trying to help. Then , after Mrtyle is going again, we can put a"I helped save Mrytle" sticker on the back of me vehicle.I am working tommorrow morn, so when I get home I will go and see my bank. The manager is in Rotary.

Lets see what happens when Marj rings ACCC(?) - hopefully she will get some redress from them -how did it pass roadworthy - oh,yes I know all about "dodgy" roadworthies, but why did SIL let it go there if he knew about the mechanic - we are supposed to look after our own I thought. Anyway lets see what comes up - personally, I am willing to help in any way I can, if need be, goes without saying.

Hi guys, just written on the other thread, been talking to my sister for the last hour on the phone. When I told her what had happened she said, How much, I will write you a cheque and pop it in the post. So please all of you, No donations, but we can still put a sticker on her bum when fixed saying "The Grey Nomads saved me"
I am going to go through ACCC first and see how that goes, hopefully something can be done. If nothing then I will take her to Geelong for a new motor. Thanks everyone,.

Hi CG, You go to cafepress.com.au. On the right hand side is a place where you create you own design, size, shape, wording etc. order it and pay by paypal, there are other methods of payment, then they post it to you. It only cost 6.00 in total (incl postage) there was a special at the time but not much dearer than that anyway. They come from USA and took no longer than a week.

Thanks wombat. I could only see it as all my fault before. But now with confirmation she was like this before I bought her I feel more confident to go to ACCC and get something done. I might make it to WA next year after all. You never know. Either way a new motor should get me right around Aus no problem.

With a new motor you will have to do some big trips to run her in. When its done make sure you also have new air cleaner and a complete check of all the intake pipe works and a good flush and check of your radiator and replace ALL your radiator hoses and heater pipes. cheers blaze

it was NEVER your fault, you made a purchase in good faith and the car yard let you down (in my oponion) when you get to WA you had better not forget to call in and see me and Mrs W, does not have to be next year, could be anytime in the future.
