Gee Rosie .. that would possibly ensure self-destruction .. hehe .. in my younger days I often found myself jumping off a bike 'cause it was also going where I didn't want to go .. but there seems to be a "grey" area these days that now sits between my brain activity and my reflexes that doesn't compute fast enough ..

MInd if I tell you a funny story about my brother? I will anyway.
For many years he loved off road biking. Spent many weekends in the bush. One day, as he was going through a track he hit a spiders web, and the biggest spider he'd ever seen,,,so he said,,, landed straight on the face of his helmet! He threw the bike down, threw the helmet off and stood there shuddering for a good 5 minutes!

I don't know. Some of those golden orb can be huge in spider terms. I would have shuddered if that happened to me too. I believe that no matter what we're travelling in, it's best to stay upright. Jonathan, your have confirmed my belief.

.. In actual fact CG, there are some very large spider webs .. In my childhood days spent in the jungles of New Guinea, I recall seeing small birds entangled and struggling to escape the mesh of free hanging webs ..

I walked into one on a dark jungle path in PNG Jon, the spider was a big black thing with a red stripe on its back (not unlike a red back but huge) and it's body was a hard shell like a crab. It had needle pointed feet which it clamped onto my face and scared the hell out of me......luckily it didn't bite and I managed to brush it away.
Also in PNG in the scrub I was wearing only a pair of shorts and boots (no shirt) when a large tarantula type spider ran up my back, still makes me shudder to this day......

wont let my wife read this as when we fly back home for chrismas my mode of transport for a month will be my sons 1000cc honda (one of those racing things that give you a sore ars after 10km), cant wait to get back into the saddle though Hope you body repairs soon Jonathon, does take longer as we get older cheers blaze

owned my first bike when I was about 12yo, honda 50 step through and never been without a bike since then, the one I pwn ATM is a 425 quad but you dont get the same buzz out of that as 2 wheels cheers blaze

No worries Jon - I didn't want to come across as a pontificating know-it-all but motorcycles have been a passion for me for, er, a bit over 40 years now so I get interested whenever I see something about them.
I used to be heavily involved in rider training and I still occasionally turn up for a refresher lesson or (although not for the past few years) a track day where I will welcome criticism of my riding style as bad habits develop all too easily.
Seriously though - it is a worthwhile exercise.

Had my first bike (James 200) when I was 14, used to ride it to work.
It had a valve lifter on the head for easy starting and it came loose while on a back road, let out a hell of a bang and stopped, right where this bloke in a ute was collecting firewood.
He came over and told me he was the local policeman and asked me how old I was, I told him I was 21 (ha ha) he told me that was BS who I was and where I lived, made me push my motorbike home after giving me a lecture, didn't hear anymore about it though

Sounds like it was a good time for old fashioned Policing. I reckon you'd learned your lesson. These days you may have been sent to juvy for a few weeks. Bring back old fashioned policing and family discipline at home.

Vic, my first bike was an old German moped that I found at a tip at Lae in PNG when I was just 11 years old. I never did get the motor to work, but I do remember how important I felt. I'd come down the road peddling furiously and as soon as I saw another kid I knew, I would stop peddling and make like I was riding the bike. From a distance it looked affective ..
then .. I got into rebuilding those good old Pommie Arial Sq 4's and Matchless bikes. Later, the Honda Dream sort of introduced me to the Japanese bikes and the novelty of electric start etc ..
