in my car i have one of those mobile phone holders that go in slide into the things in the air con vents , holds fine, we always have ours on in the back ground..

On several trips from Adelaide to Cairns, as a passenger, I took a UHF handheld with me. It helped us once to find the road conditions ahead (flooding) but I found it very hard to understand what was being said. I have cicadus like tinnitus and it masks sounds in the mid and high frequencies. The audiologist summed it up as 'you can hear peple talk you just cant understand them' (sort of like male selective hearing, lol. only permanent). After reading this forum, especially Cruzing Granny's entries I will go back to listening in once again (even if its to hear static and know something is around)

Whilst having a UHF radio is very handy and to some people essential, not everyone needs one or should have one. The mind boggles with the thought if all vehicles on the road were using UHF. Think of the road rage abuse that would come through for one thing. So, who should have one.? Truckies, work related users, Grey Nomads travelling outback ? I am not against having one, but just the thought of everyone trying to talk made me smile to myself. Should they be somewhat restricted to essential services?

Know exactly what you are talking about Merga. My audiologist says my hearing loss is in the high pitched tones too. Must be why I can't understand them all the time. Never thought about that. Bl.....y crickets/cicadas, its is permanent and dam annoying.
