Hi everybody, I think this issue was raised a few weeks ago. As I said back then, it is something we are looking at introducing. I understand this sort of section works well on other forums but I am still trying to decide how to make it work best on this site ... without creating possible issues Watch this space!

Thank you Cindy, I knew you would take this attitude, which we all appreciate, I only put the poll up to get an overall feeling of members which I hope you understand.

good idea, but too hard to monitor. perhaps it could be added to hints etc. example where to buy or someone wants to sell something, but otherwise it could be come a two headed monster

I doesn't seem to be that way on the other forums that have it, people seem to read too much into it

I haven't seen that a problem on other forums either that allow it (most do) seems to self monitor, the seller must put certain information in the ad and this is spelt out in the preamble to the for sale etc forum part. When an item is sold the poster must put a post on saying so.

I contacted Cindy quite some time ago about selling something on the Forum at that time she advised me to sell on E Bay as she was concerned about the money side of things. She may have changed her mind now but we will just have to wait and see it would be good to be able to do it though Helena.

.. maybe one consideration is that this board has only one administrator and thats been fine so far in my books .. It may require additional Admins which does bring its own responsibilities and concerns to the status quo.

I voted yes, I also think it should be on a 3 month trial in the first instance and see how it goes from there, I have just posted this below on the other topic 'Gear for sale'
I think Cindy is more concerned about the legal aspects of buying and selling on this site and does not want any kick back from failed sellars or buyers maybe laying blaime at her feet.
Most poeple do not read the posting guidelines of all forum's they join, there is one guideline that most people seem to be missing, here it is:
we all join this forum having read the guidelines or if some people did not read them then it is about time they did.

Due to the number of adverse comments, I posted my comment and Cindy felt fit to delete it, so I wash my hands of the whole thing and will make no further comment on this subject. I am currently reading the members sale swap & wanted on another nomads forum.

Perhaps, and I don't know of the legal ramifications, we could have a thread where people could post that they require a particular thing and ask if anyone knows where they might obtain it. If someone then has that item for sale they could personally PM the prospective buyer with their details.
Unfortunately it can still be oprn to abuse, but just putting it out there.

I said Yes as sometimes there is thinks that people could need on here that is available but they can be mentioned.
A perfect example is a current thread where there is someone looking for a vehicle and I have one to get rid of cheap but I cant offer so it will go to someone else where by being able to offer to a fellow forum user you have some knowledge of the seller and also some idea of what you may expect.
Just a thought but the site is owned by one person so it is their choice.

As I mentioned in an earlier post on a different thread, a buy/sell facility is something we will consider introducing. It is always great to get forumites’ views and ideas on this and other issues. Of course, we are always looking for ways to improve the site and the forum. However, I feel the real strength of the forum is its friendliness and sense of camaraderie and I certainly don’t want to do anything to endanger that. As I have said previously, I will check with our forum hosts about what we are allowed to do on the forum, what our obligations and liabilities are, and then decide whether it might work. In the beginning – if anything - we would probably have a ‘trial’ of the concept to see how things went. I emphasise, however, that maintaining forum harmony will always be my top concern.

Cindy, when you have ironed out all the options from the host then you decide if it's a yes or no, I voted yes but I will not leave this site just because it does not have a buy & sell section, I can always use eBay or Gumtree as I have in the past.

Same here, just because I have pulled out of this discussion, I have no grief with the forum in general, I think you all know that when I have something to say I am not backward in saying it or voicing my approval or objection to something.
