It's not possible to guard against everything that can go wrong , But if what happen to these poor people can make us more aware when we are on the road they haven't died in vane , We can kept an eye on the driver and if you think they maybe acting different or looking tired call for a rest stop, My wife is a back seat driverand kepts a good eye on me

Gday...
Yep ... and we solo travellers need to be very aware of, and very honest with, ourselves. You know how you "usually" feel so continually assess yourself, before you get in the vehicle as well as while driving.
Being a full-time traveller, I have no timetable (usually) to adhere to so I am able to stop when, where and for how long I want. If you are on a timetable - build in 'down time' and limit the distances each day.
OK - I'll stop lecturing now
cheers - John

Thats not lecturing John. We do all need to be so careful on the roads. I feel for the family of this group having to bury so many members of the one family. What a sad occasion.
I also feel for the families of the 6 missing in the plane off to the west of us here. No news on that yet.
