I find it amazing that a post on 'Fish & Chips' has now gone to three pages!
I must say though that Aussie F&C when well cooked are so much better to my taste than the terrible pommy soft chips ... but then their take away cod is great.
The secret of cooking crispy chips is to double fry them and always in new oil. Oil is cheap.
The first fry is just to par cook them. Then into the fridge to cool. When ready to eat refry them until golden .
For fish batter, make sure that it is kept cold in the fridge, or by adding ice cubes, until ready to use.
Best fish fry up I have had was on Norfolk Island. A fry up at sunset overlooking the ocean. Cubes of lightly battered pieces of the day's catch of reef fish cooked in half aluminuim kegs of very hot oil. Quickly in & out again. To die for.

The "debate" was a discussion about Fish and Chip prices in a particular restaurant, which is fine if it is the subject that is being "debated".
However ridiculing the originator of the thread and not the subject in general is not IMHO.
Dress it up or excuse it any way you like, but it is inexcusable IMHO!
