I pickup my motorhome this Friday and will be doing some trips around Victoria and Tassie between now and Christmas and then next year heading off to travel this great country for a few years.

How wonderful to find this site and to hear how there are so many other single females out there on a wonderful adventure. In the past week I have started to formulate the idea of heading of to the wild blue yonder as a grey nomad. My sons are all for it, maybe to get rid of Mum, I am slowly but surely coming to terms with the idea of selling my house and buying a motorhome or similar and just getting out there. Maybe in the not too distant future I will meet some of you on the road somewhere.

Not sure what you mean Elle, this is the first thread at the top of the Solos forum, Cindy has put it as a Sticky so it always stays at the top, then all the other threads are below it.

I am a solo traveller over 6 years so far and still enjoy, i have a 23.6 ft caravan gone east north west and south. thanks everyone for your support and encouragement. I am really excited about it all. I have started to sort out some of my "stuff" in the house in preperation of selling. Now comes the really funny part, I have almost decided that a motorhome will be the way to go. Never really having stepped inside of one before, I am off to Adelaide tomorrow and will be doing the rounds of the dealers to start my research. I am getting so much support from those around me and copping a lot of stick too. It is nice to know that I give them so much to laugh at. So according to one friend, I will be the one sitting on the side of the road in my white linen suit, makeup, hair done, waiting for somebody to come along to change my tyre, it was all said in good fun and I thought well maybe that might just be the way to go. Glam it up. The funny thing is that around home I am a dag and that is how I will be travelling. Cannot wait not to have to worry too much about make up, hair, etc. The best thing not to have to worry about the garden, God will do that for me out on the road. Happy travels everyone.

Well Fireheart, you just carry on following your heart. It's your life. It doesn't mean you love your family less. I can't speak for them. They're probably better off at their ages than you ever were, so don't worry about depriving yourself of this experience to save their inheritance. I'm glad I did the clean out years ago, every time I moved house. I wan't a hoarder so it was just a matter of bringing things up to date. When I started travelling again my kids got my stuff as a keep sake or to use how they saw fit. Now I live in the van there's no room for unused stuff. Problem solved. Keep up the good work.

Had a great morning this morning. Started my first step into the nomad lifestyle. Spent 2 hours with a lovely gentleman at the Winnebago sales centre in Adelaide. He was really great answering my questions, pointing out different bits and pieces and generally encouraging. I count my blessings that this seems to be going so well and from the answers and encouragment on the Forum to the Lindton( I think that is how his name is spelt), to my kids being just wonderful about it all, I cannot wait to get out there. I am ready to put the house on the market and send out to the universe that it sells quickly and for the price I want and then there will be no stopping me. Can't wait to hit the road, even my 80yo Mum asked today if she could come with me sometimes. That was just wonderful as I thought she may have been a bit funny about me leaving home again after moving back only 2 years ago. So it seems to me that it is all systems go for now.

Great to hear that your initial research is going well. I reckon it would be wonderful to have your mum go with you sometimes. Keep the excitement building. My caravan is with the autoelectrician having the solar panels installed so I am one step closer to the open road. Tiime is flying. Sounds like you might be on the road sooner rather than later

Hi I am another newbie. I have been reading posts and decided I should just post something. I dont like writting, so I might seem a bit jumbled, but rading the posts on here I will fit in fine. Some history, I retired last year and have been living with friends up until june this year when I bought a house in Loxton, SA. I also bought a motorhome as I want to travel a bit. I have had it for 5 months and did my first trip last weekend. I still travel 'like I have to be somewhere'. Ummmm. cant think of anything else to say.
Is it realistic for a 50 something female to travel Australia on her own?

Good decision by going on the solo forum you will have lots of fun talking about all sorts of things.Dont have too many plans or none at all,just remember to lock the house when you leave and turn of all of the essentials before you go. Happy travells Neil

Slowing down isn't easy that's for sure. We have been travelling about 10 months a year up till now and it's only been on this trip where we have "settled" down to hastening slowly.
Hang in there you will get the hang of it sooner or later and when you do, boy won't you reap the rewards.

Hi & Im a newbie to this sight..I have purchased a Hino rb145 motorhome for my solo journey & no nothing about this bus or lifestyle but I am gonna learn & do it.. I"m positive I will meet up with alot a nice helpful people along the ways..I am just familirizing with how things work with Motorhome & plan my journey Jan. 2012...Merry Xmas to all GN & happy n safe travels..

I travel solo in my A Van and have had some wonderfu ltimes, made new friends and caught up with old ones. I have a travel blog if you'd like to check out this year's trips. I've just spent eight days in the Snowy Mountains with four other women who travel solo. We had a great time and I certainly made some new friends. I haven't added that trip to the blog yet but will in the next few days.
