Replacing original front and side markers with LEDs

Hi everyone,
Now before someone tells me, there was a thread started on this topic but from what I see, the last post was in 2016, please correct me if I am wrong and re-direct me.
I am in the process of replacing front and side marker lights with LEDs. This is the current situation:
1. I know the two brown wires are positive and the earth is a white wire inside the light cover screwed to the cladding.
3. I think I have worked out the side markers are daisy chained together, with the last marker only having one brown wire.
2. I used a test light and none of the side markers work. When I run a wire with an alligator clip and battery from the brown wire that comes up from the floor, the lights work.
3. It appears there is a break in the brown wire from the front of the van to the rear.
Does the cladding need to be removed to access the wire to check for a break, I would prefer not too. ant thoughts on what I can do?

G day, I have the same problem . I have replaced the tail lights and blinkers . The blinkers and hazard lights work but the tail lights do not . I think it could be a resistor issue.

Possibly it could be you need an LED resistor. In my case, I need them for my indicators but not the tail lights. I believe that is because I have several side lights plus the tail lights, so there is sufficient current draw. Do you have an incandescent globe you can put in the circuit with alligator clips or something? If it then works that would tend to confirm the need for the LED resistor. If that test does not resolve it, look elsewhere for a fault.

Yes, it does sound like you have a break but it seems unlikely unless some previous work has been done on the van, maybe it's a bad connection in one of the lights themselves? I'd check for corrosion in the crimped joints.
As an aside, and something you may need to consider, though I'm not sure of the actual situation, but when I had my van rego check done the other day I asked about the side running lights because I had just replaced the front (white) and rear (red) running lights and the tail light assembly with LEDs.
I wondered whether I could replace the existing amber/red lights with just amber LEDs. I have been unable to find side running lights in a vertical format that were amber/red as per my existing lights so I wanted to just use amber. The mechanic said he thought that rules varied with the age of the van (which I thought was strange) but he wasn't sure though he thought they needed to be amber/red, not just amber.
Worth investigating.

If it is a resistor issue, go to Jaycar and buy 120 ohm barrel resistors.
Come in a pack of two for the princely sum of $0.69.
I needed to fit them for my vans indicators so just fitted them across between each indicator terminal and the earth terminal inside the trailer plug. Worked a treat.
