Hi all. I am totally new to the group and  would love some relevant info on the Great Central Road from Yulara to Laverton. We plan to travel this road in late April. Very aware that it will be hot and that rain in the area could totally change our plans but hopefully it will be dry by then. Also have read a lot about road conditions but we have travelled the Gibb many times so prepared for lots of corrugations and changing conditions. My main interest is in camping. Has any one done it at this time of year and were there many other travellers. Just a little concerned about how safe we will be as we are travelling by ourselves. Have done lots of road side camping but not in such remote areas. Any comments will be appreciated. 

Carmel, the Great Central Road is typically very well maintained. The NT side is usually not as good as the WA side.
Camping along the way is strictly controlled by the 2 (free) permits that you must get, one for the NT and one for WA. In an emergency, you can stop wherever you need. You won't have a problem finding spots. Read the conditions carefully.
There may not be much other traffic, but you should have no concerns about your safety.
I strongly suggest you take a registered Personal Locator Beacon in case of emergency.

ps..... provided you have the permits for the GCR and you do NOT stop or sight see in the Uluru NP on the way through, you do not need to pay for a Uluru visitors pass.
