Hi all, we are still doing the preperation thing and have now got to the tow vehicle part. All sorts of info is around as you would no doubt know. We are looking at a 18 footer just under 2000kgs. For this trip, we will mainly stay on the sealed bit with some venturing onto gravel/dirt roads for the majority of our first time travels (we'll do the adventurer thing next time round)
Our advice is that we really don't need a 4WD for this as long as it has the grunt and a limited slip diff and perfered, a lockable diff at that. All sounds ok to me.
The type, model, etc is yet to be looked but what sort of fuel. There seems to be a strong case for petrol to start and then when hot enough switch to LPG. From a cost point of view possible the best but some comments have been made about not enough grunt on LPG.
So there it is, we would really love for your comments and advice as we are getting to that point of trying to make the right decision and would really like to get it somewhere near right.
All I can say is , roll on 2008, can't wait.
Thank you for your input Brian and Cheryl

Hi Brian & Cheryl, I have expressed this view before & I am very biased.
3 choices. Diesel, diesel or diesel.
You want a hard working high torqe tow-er.
How many petrol or gas semis are on the highways?
Answer NONE!
Cheers,
Peter.

I agree with Peter, you should go diesel. Further, I suggest turbo and automatic. The turbo diesel engine was made to go with a good auto box. Doesn't have to be a 4x4. There are 2wd options. I would also prefer rear wheel drive.

Thank you toadskin. the thoughts are beinging to go the way of diesel and your comments in relation to turbo and automatic fit well with where others comments are going as well.
The 2wd Vs 4wd have also become the focus of the next move nad I thank you for your input to that. All we need to do now is stop the price of diesel from going much further as it will have a brearing on how we fund the whole thing
Once again, thank you
